Meet the democrat’s protected class.

They work for a company that recycles electronic equipment under contract for the prison. They earn a few cents an hour to keep them busy and they can use the funds for the prison commissary. This particular prison was for low security prisoners convicted on non-violent crimes. There is not much chance of them trying to kill another prisoner.

Most people don't realize that some criminals are sent to minimum security prisons that look like military barracks. Ever hear of Club Fed? A federal prison operated on Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama where I was once stationed. The prisoners were allowed to play in the base softball league!

I am sorry that you have never been exposed to prison farms. You have never seen any movies like Cool Hand Luke, O Brother Where Art Thou, Bonnie and Clyde, and literally dozens of movies that portrayed prison farms. Louisiana's Angola prison is famous for its annual rodeo. Read about it and you will learn all about prison farms.
can't say I have watched any of those movies
what exactly they growing and on what land?
the deep south is not kansas, very dense

how? do they buy land around the prison, buy farm equipment, harvest it, process it and store it?
I am sure the inmates don't want to live on corn, soybeans and wheat
Many prisons have pretty large gardens right on prison grounds. A prisoner can get garden time for good behavior.

If they had done an investigation and gone out to get the one illegal they actually found, I would not object.

But this was just a random raid, and everybody was rounded up and rousted.
They arrested 360 something illegals, Tim...including ten minors. The fact that the owner of that pot farm was a big contributor to Gavin Newsome has a palpable stench. I highly doubt it was a "random" raid! Someone obviously tipped off ICE about what was going on at that farm.

Don’t hide your bigotry.

So, it’s his[antics fault that the white people moved out of the neighborhood?
Usually it's the gangs fault, Tim...of which the most violent are ones like MS13 that you liberals just flooded the country with because of your open border policies that didn't vet anyone...just released them into the the US!

The real truth is that illegal aliens are a cash cow to government workers. Some schools in the San Fernando Valley that used to be 95% white and now 95% Hispanic, filled with children of illegal aliens. If their parents are booted, the kids would go with them and teachers would be in bread lines. The same goes for welfare workers, health care workers, DMV employees, police, fire, etc. Without illegals, tens of thousands of highly paid government workers will no longer be needed.

Illegals are also needed by scores of businesses to keep wages low and prices for their customers. In that regard, they kept inflation low under Biden. Illegals mean business tax revenue to the cities, and shopping at stores like Walmart robust. Obviously, they create more representatives in Congress too.

So when some weeping politician or libral cries about them being deported, remind them that they are crying about loss of money and power and as Ilhan famously said "It's all about the Benjamins.

We need to get the population back down to around 180 million or so. Doing away with the immigration rules in place prior to 1965 has been a disaster, more so for blacks and American latinos than any other demographic..

personally I think able men in prison should do the work
they wear a tracking device on their leg in case one tries to get away

if the taxpayer has to pay 50K a year for their room and board, least they can do it work for it

problem solved
Already been tried, and for over a hundred years. Turns out sheriffs liked to arrest people so he could rent them out to local businesses and line his pockets.

Seeing the financial windfall to be had, county governments began negotiating their own lease agreements with industries. In addition to serving the time imposed as punishment for their crimes, county convicts also had to pay all of their court costs, usually by serving extended sentences. Typically convicted of misdemeanors, these county convicts often served long periods of hard labor in abhorrent conditions because they could not afford to pay the costs of their arrests and trials. In the vast majority of cases, such convicts lived in utter filth, were poorly fed, suffered torture and cruel punishments, and had no protection whatsoever from the labor contractors who hired them. Many of the state's female convicts performed forced labor on state-run prison farms.

Right wingers don't have any more morals and principles than left wingers do in many cases; that's why they have such a slim majority in the House and Senate. Both parties loves them some slave labor. So does Wall Street. They found skeletons of dead miners in the coal mines, unidentifiable because they were just transients passing through and nobody missed them.

While those working at private companies can at least earn a little money, they face possible punishment if they refuse, from being denied family visits to being sent to higher-security prisons, which are so dangerous that the federal government filed a lawsuit four years ago that remains pending, calling the treatment of prisoners unconstitutional.

Though they make at least $7.25 an hour, the state siphons 40% off the top of all wages and also levies fees, including $5 a day for rides to their jobs and $15 a month for laundry.

Stealing wages is a left wing thing right wingers are fine with. They also love Red Chinese labor racketeering when it lines their pockets. This why labor unions exist, but right wingers don't like them because they operate the same way corporations do.

Inmates cultivate, harvest, and process various crops that make the facility self-supporting. Crops include cabbage, corn, cotton, strawberries, okra, onions, peppers, soybeans, squash, tomatoes, and wheat. In 2013, the prison resumed growing sugarcane, a practice stopped in the 1970s

As of 2010, the prison had 2,000 head of cattle. Much of the herd is sold at markets for beef. Each year, the prison produces four million pounds of vegetable crops

they grow crops that are sold to somebody who can process them, they don't go into their food system
last thing I would want is to live on okra and squash

wheat? you need a 300K machine to harvest it, doing by hand with a sharp blade takes time and effort and you can use it to kill somebody, brilliant

as for cattle, that beef is sold so the prison makes money, the inmates are not getting porterhouse steaks for dinner

but hey, least the criminals are doing something other than picking cotton! haha
modern cotton machines can do in an hour what 1000 inmates can do in a day

well we have tech now and GPS so the old chain gang back a century ago is not a great idea now

bus them to a farmland, makes them work, round them up after the day, rinse and repeat until the harvest is done

Some Texas prisons have them growing food for the prison and other chores. Not always a money saver, as the costs sometimes are higher than the crops are worth.

Not everybody in prison has done something they deserve to die for.

I doubt harvesting crops is going to lead to your death, unless you give inmates a sharp object to harvest the crops

Try it in 95-110 degree heat and high humdity, and having no air conditioning in your prison to cool off at night with.

is that not the same as illegals and migrant workers? crops at 110F would be worthless
so illegals and migrants have AC when they get done, going back to their 2x4 shack....

That is actually freaking hilarious

these are criminals, they are not supposed to have it easy, prison is not a country club

did slaves in the south after picking cotton all day in heat and humidity go back to their shack and turn on AC?

Don't care about illegals, and they aren't forced to work and they get air conditioning. Maybe if you visited a commercial farm you would know the difference between conditions on those versus prison farms worked by hand.
Example:

Well, you're a sociopath, so of course you don't like it. That's why you parrot the the tired old 'country club' idiocy as if they're all nice n comfy. Pics of how modern day farms 'pick crops' have already been posted in another thread.

This thing's like the housing bubble of 2008.

The government has been subsidizing illegals and housing and food for them and schooling for them at American

seriously? commercial farms are not run by illegals or migrants, they do the grunt work, those who are driving a 300K tractor are educated and get paid well for their skill

some video about JD is a misdirection and has zero to do with the topic

LOL, I am a model citizen with a working brain, who said anything about a country club?

I don't need to watch your dumb video, farm hands, mostly illegals and prison workers, what is the difference? by law illegals are criminals thus they should be in a prison farm! haha

Yes, it proves you don;t know much and just like to parrot ideological fantasies. Not many crops are picked by hand on commercial farms any more; most of the work is packing and sorting, and even that is getting more automated, and requires fewer hands.

AI Overview
Air-conditioned packing and sorting plants: A necessity for sensitive goods.

Air-conditioned packing and sorting plants are crucial for industries dealing with products sensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations. These facilities employ sophisticated climate control systems to maintain consistent conditions, typically within a specific range like 55°F and 85°F (13.3°C and 29°C). This level of control goes beyond what a standard temperature-controlled warehouse can provide, as it also regulates humidity and air quality
Why are air-conditioned facilities essential?
  • Preserving product quality: Many items, like food products, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and horticultural goods, can degrade or spoil if exposed to extreme heat, cold, or humidity. Climate control ensures their quality and integrity throughout the packing and sorting process.
  • Extending shelf life: Maintaining optimal storage conditions can significantly extend the shelf life of perishable products, reducing waste and increasing profitability.
  • Preventing damage: Fluctuations in temperature and humidity can cause materials to warp, crack, mold, or rust, damaging delicate or sensitive items.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance: Certain industries have strict regulations regarding storage conditions for their products, such as pharmaceuticals and food items. Climate control ensures compliance with these guidelines, avoiding penalties and recalls.
  • Protecting against pests and improved air quality: Climate-controlled facilities offer enhanced protection against pests like rodents and insects and maintain clean air by filtering out contaminants, dust, and debris.
  • Providing a comfortable work environment: Maintaining a comfortable temperature and air quality also benefits employees working within the facility.

Your topic is apparently about indulging in sadism and cruelty, so we'll just have to disagree. I don't go in for torture for the sake of torture. Sadism and torture aren't cost effective.

This thing's like the housing bubble of 2008.

The government has been subsidizing illegals and housing and food for them and schooling for them at American
taxpayers' expense.
It's often been said that we have a uniparty. Regarding illegal aliens, the start of it was the bracero program, which took illegals in for the summer to pick crops. Both sides saw that the could capitalize n cheap labor and turned their heads. In a few decades, we had Mexicans sneaking across to partake in the American dream. They were and are hard workers who don't complain, knowing they could lose a job and be sent back. The floodgates were opened and no one stopped them. Now we have gang members, mass murderers, car thieves, drub pushers, child traffickers.

It takes time to research this because the cities and states intentionally obscure the facts. No records are kept of how many illegal aliens are arrested for crimes. Go try to fund out. But our jails are full of them, as our courts. They falsely claim that cities are just welcoming immigrants and don't say that the cities profit from them due to their low wages, their shopping in that city instead of online, their renting of housing and even buying homes. They buy used cars, clothing, gas. Most of all though, is the government jobs they create, especially in public schools. If you check in California, you will find you can enroll a child of 6 born in Mexico who speaks no English in school, and he will get free breakfast and lunch, a bilingual teacher and the administration does not confirm if he or she was born here. Why? Because the more students the more federal aid and the more teachers that are needed.
