Former GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz is withdrawing from consideration as President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general, he said in a post on X Thursday.

The former Florida lawmaker said he made the decision after meeting with senators Wednesday.

“While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition,” Gaetz wrote. “There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”

Trump’s selection of Gaetz came under heavy scrutiny, as the House Ethics Committee weighed releasing a report on allegations of wrongdoing, including “sexual misconduct and illicit drug use,” by the Republican.

Interesting, while it would have been highly entertaining to watch Gaetz rampage through the DOJ and piss off all the bureaucrats, I believe this is probably for the best since it avoids President Trump having to spend political capital trying to get him confirmed (he has much stronger appointees to spend that on like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard).

I think Pam Bondi (former Florida Attorney General) might be a good choice, she's smart and tough not to mention a Trump Supporter, and yes Democrats She's actually a Woman.

The woman who says she had sex when she was a minor with then-Rep. Matt Gaetz told the House Ethics Committee she had two sexual encounters with him at one party in 2017, sources familiar with her testimony tell CNN.

The woman, who was 17 years old at the time, testified that the second sexual encounter, which has not previously been reported, included another adult woman. She also testified to both sexual encounters in a civil deposition as part of a related lawsuit, sources said.
