A good compromise would be to siphon off a 3-mile radius surrounding the Capitol, the WH, and the National Mall for federal protection, allowing visitors and tourists to come into our nation’s Capitol and enjoy themselves without tripping over homeless tents, dodging aggressive panhandlers, walking through garbage, and risking being mugged….or worse.

The really horrible areas in SE - much of NE is bad too - will just be left to locals to attempt to police. Visitors can just avoid the ghetto sections.

I have an issue with this, because it's not always cut-and-dry like that.

What if, whatever the LE is trying to enforce, is wrong, and not only that, the protestors also genuinely feel that the LE's action is wrong? I think the issue here is that we always assume that that LE, and basically anything about the government, is always in the right. This is not true and is in fact a very dangerous way of thinking.

I think that is more a unique case because it involves working on a thing and not going after people.
