Zone1 Mary

“The nation of Israel” are Christians, the Church. Jesus said “Behold, your Mother.” She is the mother of the Church. She was hidden for that time to protect her from Jews and Romans that wanted to kill her.
Why only 3 1/2 years?
Why would it make sense to “Replace Mary with the nation of Israel” though in this chapter? Why would the church only be protected for 3 1/2 years? Was “the nation of Israel” given wings?
Because the context of the book of Revelation is the end of time. It is about God dealing with the nation of Israel and all of mankind. It just doesn't make sense to talk about Mary being protected for 3 1/2 years because Satan was out to destroy her and her family much longer than that. Also, that time frame fits in with the time frame for the entire Tribulation period.

The image and the story can apply to several at the same time. This is why numbers often repeat themselves throughout the Bible. 40 days and nights Moses spent on the mountain. 40 years Israel spent in the desert. 40 days and nights Jesus spent in the desert. 40 days Jesus spent on Earth after the resurrection before he ascended to Heaven. In three days the Cupbearer would be restored after being imprisoned, three days Jonah spent in the beast before being returned to the world, Jesus rising on the third day.

Mary is the New Eve. She is also the mother of the church. Her children are persecuted by Satan much like Eve’s children were. So yes, in some respects the imagery of Revelation 12 is of the Church, but it is also of Mary herself. We don’t know why the number 3 1/2 is chosen, other than it is half of 7, which signifies a mid point. 7 is associated with perfection and completion.

I can tell you why 3 1/2 is important. It is the second half of the Great Tribulation, during which most of the earth will be devastated. I do not see how it applies to Mary.

It applies to Mary because the Bible tells us that is what happened:

14 The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent’s reach.

- the heavens sent the three wise men who with their swards let those that might harm mary for her courage over judaism know what their fate would be than who would be their victim.
