'Miracle on Ice' team star Pavelich found dead

Mark Pavelich, who assisted on the game-winning goal to beat the Soviet Union in the 1980 Olympics, was found dead at a treatment facility in Minnesota.

I remember watching that on TV.

America was very hungry for a win in 1980.

I'm a Toledo native and Mike Eruzione, the captain of the USA's 1980 Olympic hockey team, played for the Toledo Goaldiggers before he joined the olympic team. When I was a kid I used to go to the Goaldigger games. I remember celebrating with my 3 brothers, and a neighbor kid who practically lived at our home, when the USA beat Finland 4-2 to win the gold.

I also remember the USA team bashing each other's helmets with their hockey sticks. Back in 1980, in the USA it was very uncommon for a hockey player to wear a helmet.

Among your peers, bringing a helmet to a hockey game automatically labeled you a wussy.
