flattening the curve is for preventing the hospitals from overflowing, which occurred anyways. But would have been worse without flattening.
Hospitals were almost never overflowing, because then FEMA mobile facilities get called in, and that almost never happened.
Nor does "flattening the curve" at all help to prevent hospitals from over flowing.
Over flowing occurs when an epidemic does not quickly end, and instead is artificially kept going on and on, forever.
And that is what "flattening the curve" does.
Normally, any epidemic quickly hits a peak that burns it out, as it uses up too many of the easy hosts.
But by "flattening the curve", you conserve easy hosts, preventing the epidemic from being able to end from normal herd immunity.
If you want the numbers, to achieve herd immunity they estimated you would need 240 million to become infected and recover.
Although the average lethality is about 1%, that is because the lethality is VERY age related, so most of the deaths are over 70.
Those under 40 have 400 times lower death rate.
So if you deliberately infect 240 million volunteers under 40, instead of the 2.4 million deaths Fauci claimed, it would be 400 times less that, or just 6,000 deaths.
It would still have taken a month or so, and some elderly would still likely also get infected, but we should never have tried to wait for the vaccines.
We killed another 800,000 additional people by "flattening the curve" for 2 years.
Flattening the curve is NEVER a good idea, and has always been warned against in the past.
Instead you either go with full quarantine if it is very lethal, or herd immunity if it is not very lethal.
Those are your only 2 reasonable choices.
