Marjorie Greene wants to debate AOC on Green New Deal

Relying solely on taking an obviously tongue-in-cheek comment seriously just tells me you haven't got much ammo when it comes to attacking AOC's intellect. And I'm still waiting for your encomium on Representative Greene. Why do you hold back?

AOC would make MTG look absolutely stupid and unprepared and out of her depth.

Go for it!

Her talk about better places to invest $3 billion was tongue-in-cheek?

That's funny.

So, no list?

Yelling at the staff through the mail slot? Are you fucking kidding me? This is an elected official of the US House of Representatives? What a fucking sad disaster. MJT will go down in history as the biggest fool ever voted into office.

She is the perfect anti prog. We need hundreds like her. The first thing is people like her who take no crap and give it back.

I can't tell you how impressed I am by people who think Marjorie Taylor Green was just what her constituents needed in Congress. But, hey, I've got an idea. Since the content of this thread is politics and thus off-topic for this forum, why don't we take a little curve in the road and, based on the OP, talk about the pros and cons of the Green New Deal. I bet there aren't many folks here who actually know what it contains. Let's ask Wikipedia. Here is their opening section:

Green New Deal (GND) proposals call for public policy to address climate change along with achieving other social aims like job creation and reducing economic inequality. The name refers back to the New Deal, a set of social and economic reforms and public works projects undertaken by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in response to the Great Depression.[1] The Green New Deal combines Roosevelt's economic approach with modern ideas such as renewable energy and resource efficiency.[2][3]

A prominent 2019 attempt to get legislation passed for a Green New Deal was sponsored by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) during the 116th United States Congress, though it failed to advance in the Senate.[4] In the European Union, a 2019 proposal from the European commission for a European Green Deal was supported by the European Council, and in January 2020, by the European Parliament as well.[5]

Since the early 2000s, and especially since 2018, other proposals for a "Green New Deal" had arisen both in the United States and internationally.[6][7][8] The first U.S. politician to run on a Green New Deal platform was Howie Hawkins of the Green Party when he ran for governor of New York in 2010.[9] Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein ran on a Green New Deal platform in 2012 and 2016.[10]

The term is a modern-day variation of the U.S. New Deal, an ambitious effort launched by President Franklin Roosevelt to lift the United States out of the Great Depression. The New Deal of that era entailed a strong government role in economic planning and a series of stimulus packages launched between 1933 and 1938 that created jobs through ambitious governmental programs, including the construction of roads, trails, dams, and schools. Today's Green New Deal proposals are also premised on the importance of decisive governmental action, but incorporate policies to respond to pressing environmental challenges through a new paradigm of sustainable economic progress."

So, this looks like a combination of fighting global warming, Government programs to restore and update our infrastructure, employing a lot of people along the way and some progressive ideas to improve the condition of America's poor by more fair and realistic taxation of the rich; something like America had in the middle of the 20th century, when business was booming. From a broad perspective, it looks all good to me. But, I'd bet a dollar to a donut that some of you disagree. Why?

improve the condition of America's poor by more fair and realistic taxation of the rich; something like America had in the middle of the 20th century,

The rich pay a larger portion of total income taxes paid, today, than they did in the middle of the 20the century. Why was the old method "more fair and realistic"?

The highest income tax rate today is 37%. In the 50s and 60s, we had tax rates in excess of 90%

The highest income tax rate today is 37%. In the 50s and 60s, we had tax rates in excess of 90%

And yet....The rich pay a larger portion of total income taxes paid, today, than they did in the middle of the 20th century.

Do you understand what that means?

That must explain how Trump got away with paying less taxes than you and I. And he's a fucking idiot. Imagine what someone intelligent could do. And why corporations making billions in profits pay absolutely nothing in taxes.

Depreciation.......just awful.

So why is it unfair that the wealthy pay a larger share than they used to pay?

Have a look at the interactive graphic on total tax rates at this link. Scroll up and down to make the graph show data from different decades.

Rates have fallen.
Portion of income taxes paid by the rich has increased, portion paid by the middle class and lower classes has fallen.
And Buffett is full of shit.
And the claim that the 400 richest pay a lower rate is also false.

Sorry, but Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doesn't negotiate with terrorists.

Marjorie Taylor Greene wants to debate Green New Deal with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez | TheHill

Socialists don't debate, they rely on the least impressive in media to promote them and tell you the citizen, that it is a great deal. Don't ask questions, just trust. Government always knows what is best for you and your future citizens.

correct debate in media and have the media cancel the opposing information. that's how they do it.
