I'm happy to blame Putin for starting the war but that doesn't mean it makes any sense for it to just go on endlessly.

Something in this war equation needs to change at some point. The U.S. has supported the war and now is trying to help negotiate an end.

I agree with the last sentence of the OP.

It's time for both parties to negotiate or for the U.S. to move on. At that point, Europe can choose to continue to support it or move on too.

Poland joined EU at half the GDP per capita of Russia... Now they are double Russia... How does Putin sell that internally?

But the other side of this is Ukraine can't defend the place they live - without relying heavily on half the world, and especially the U.S., to help. Even with all that help, they aren't succeeding. In order to succeed (win), they'd need even more help and at a level this world would very likely regret. As is, no one is winning and so many people are dying. How much more of that do you think makes sense and to what end?
