Mamdani Shuts Down Hotel Junk Fees

What are you finding confusing about this?

retaliati.

OK it's all there. Whoopee. But it doesn't come close to advertised (never does) which was my point. We've all seen U-Haul "as low as $29.99/day" printed on trucks driving the roads. I'd like to call BS.

I'm the idiot, you're the Mod genius. Can barely read you tricks and gimicks on 4" phone. Climb off me. Because you got put in your place yesterday, now you Spin.

This is actually a good idea, probably the first one he's had. This has been a huge complaint from tourists here in Las Vegas. They'll book a "deal" for $50 a night at a hotel and then when they check out find out they're actually paying $90 night due to added on hospitality fees, facility fees, or entertainment fees, whatever they choose to call them, for the amenities offered at the hotel that may not have even used.

So far I like everything this guy has done....

Good for them, although NYC has experienced a significant decline in tourism resulting in an approximate loss of $4 BILLION in 2025. Pretty sure junk fees were not the primary issue.

They'll just raise their prices then, or is he going to mandate a freeze on that as well?

Haven't seen that yet

Cea Weaver, appointed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani as director of the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants, has drawn significant attention due to past social media posts in which she described homeownership as a “weapon of white supremacy” and advocated for policies that would have individuals pay 30% of their income toward housing, regardless of income level.

Yeah.... I see what you mean.....

It's all stupid. You pay what you pay. You eliminate "junk" fees, they just raise the hotel rates. Simple minds always think things like this are going to work.

We've had complaints here in Las Vegas from tourists who have had fees added to their bill at checkout that were actually more per night than the room rate they were quoted. That's basically fraudulent advertising on the parts of the casinos.
There are courts to sort that stuff out in, rather than by executive fiat.

I don't know when the last time you rented a car was, but I do it frequently for work. All of the fees added on to the daily rate are shown at completion of the reservation, so when you're selecting the car it may say $39.99, but when you submit the reservation the full price is shown. What it says when I make the reservation is what I pay after I turned the car back in.
i.e., When it affects you, then you are all in for authoritarian means to rectify the perceived wrong.

Do they actually explain what the fees are in the "view details" page?

1 could be a government thing, 3 and 5 definitely are, and maybe 4 is as well?
I believe these fees are all legally disclosed in some form or another. Some people are just simple ding-dongs who are not intellectually sophisticated enough to price it into their budgets.

I'm curious why anyone would think Mamydani has anyone other than his self interests at heart

He's a fraud

That's isn't the point. The point is those fees will be transparent up front. The customer will now know exactly what the hotel will cost instead of being blindsided when they receive the bill at checkout.
