Mamdani: Let NYC Eat (Socialist) Cake

New York just doubled down on stupid.

Yup!

Thank you for the on topic reply. You make the point about loopholes and deductions making the effective tax rate lower m. Yet it is still higher in the 50s than any other decade and the 50s were our most prosperous era. People didn’t flee. They paid their taxes and the country prospered and so did the wealthy.
I suspect there are much more important factors at play. A single middle-class income used to be able to afford a modest house, car, and college for the kids.

Didn’t Trump pay zero in taxes during some years?

Yeah, I think he rolled over losses. It's every CEO's job to minimize tax burden. Indeed, none of us pay more taxes than we are obligated to.

PS: NYC is going to try to fix its problems by going further Left. It's going to be a case study, I bet.

Higher crime rates, making less money, losing investments .. loss of innovation .. reward those who are a debt to society.. sounds like a great strategy

I didn't deal with them in any business capacity, but when I took a vacation to New York, boy were my eyes opened. It's the only place in the US I felt like I was in a foreign land. The rudest people I have encountered; they would rather run you over than look at you. The city itself is horrid. The only place in the US I would never, ever visit again.
I visited a friend there years ago and I felt like.Axl Rose in the beginning of the Welcome to the Jungle video. The city.was dirty, people unfriendly, no spirit,.it felt dormant of joy and dark. Toronto feels a little more like that today though not as bad. I had spoken to many from New York at work and the comparison between NY and California was vast. Cali business execs were great people, warm and funny, not those from NY or NJ. A rare instance in which I was happy to be home.

Your remark was added for color....that didn't go over my head.
Sure sounds like it did since you didn’t address my point and instead asked an off topic question about whether I thought trumps tax deductions was a problem

Your Trump comment was included in your 'point'.

Ya know, many would say that the number show that the 1950s was the most prosperous decade in American history. Wanna take a guess at what the top marginal tax rate was???

I’ll save you the spin…. It was 91%

How do your theories hold up to the numbers and history
Except the rich paid less taxes than they do now. No one, not the Rich nor the middle class paid the published rates. Have you ever heard the term "tax shelter"? They were investments designed to LOSE money in a strategic manner to lower the effective tax rates of the people paying into them.
