My question is is.....why? Gladiator with Russel Crowe took ludicrous liberties with historical accuracy. Braveheart barely managed to get the name of the main character right. "Ancient Apocalypse' couldn't go 10 minutes before falling apart. There are bizarro shows about Easter Island, Stonehenge, and enough speculation or historical fiction about ancient rome to start a channel.

I was recently reading a biography of Actress Ana Mae Wong, one of the first Asian-Americans to have a prominent film career.

So, anyway, they were going to do a film adaptation of Pearl S. Buck's The Good Earth, which is set in China, and they were considering casting Wong in the role of O-Lan, the female lead. But the male lead was going to be played by Victor Muni, a white dude in Yellowface. So under the miscengation rules of the time, a genuine Asian actress could not be cast to be the fictional wife of a white actor in Yellowface.

So I just can't get worked up that a black person was cast in the role of a person of color in ancient times.

I think what always annoys me about Historical films is that they portray the characters as having modern values to make them relatable.

So of course, your heroine in a 19th Century costume drama has progressive ideas about race and gender roles, because that is what the audience has.

And when the negative aspects of the reality of a time period are discussed, it is always in a way that the heroes are not participating in. If they own slaves at all, they treat them with dignity, of course.

Why?

A major reason is because our nation is in decline. We started pretty high with comforts. Even if some was uneven. Now more and more the government is involved in filling up the weaknesses created by them. Perhaps we could have handled things differently with social justice.

Perhaps. I always considered Democrats a party that moves the needle. They are excessive now with a nation that depends on government checks and benefits more and more. The last two years with the real and painful inflation tax is a result of this. I never watched those films. And I do not watch films and TV shows that are obviously woke. The same with different cultural groups used in a sensible way is another story though.

I never even heard of The Day Christ died. Most of the religious movies I watched were the 1950's ones. I have heard of King of Kings. The story is familiar if you were taught religion. Otherwise, I do not trust the entertainers anymore.
