If we hadn't spent the last few decades misapplying capitalism -- the greatest engine of growth and prosperity the world has -- this wouldn't be an issue.
But we have, and it is. Sadly.
I see your point. There are some downfalls to capitalism. Especially crony capitalism, that benefits from government picking winners and losers. And corporate greed. Like the big 3 protein producers cutting back on beef production to only increase their profits.
Or when the oil companies reduce oil production to do the same thing.
Things like that is what the government should focus on and make rules against. Not allowing them to practice this sort of gouging.
But socialism, in any form, is much much worse. It's literally putting the government in charge of all aspects of production, marketing and prices. When the government can't even balance a budget or keep SS efficient.
