The qualities that make for a good PLAYER have no relationship to the qualities that make a good GENERAL MANAGER.

Is there any doubt whatsoever that Mr. Johnson wants to hire the BEST POSSIBLE GM? That money is no object? That he could hire any one of a thousand "qualified" people, simply because it's the Lakers?
