Trump can’t order businesses to move back to the US but I wonder if he is using tariffs to force businesses in indirect way?

But problem is lot business will not care they just increase price of set item. So PlayStation 5 not cost $700 it may now cost $900 because of tariffs. The people have to pay more leading to more inflation.

Quote That is their choice to make, and it is anticipated that some will do that, but the advantages of domestic production will make it likely that if businesses choose to do that, competition will move into the void to take advantage of much lower taxes while avoiding tariffs. While only being in office for three days, Trump has already secured pledges of hundreds of billions of dollars for production and manufacturing investment. Having an automatic entry into the American market at the lowest cost is a very enticing motivator. Quote

How does taxes and tariffs force factories back to the US? Trumps wants things made in the US.

"If we trade with ourselves, we have the money and the goods." A. Lincoln

Lincoln was an economic disciple of Henry Clay who advocated for an American economy free from foreign competition. Shades of his policies are showing up in Trump's policies, mainly the protectionism of tariffs, which weren't meant to punish foreign economies but to discourage imports that compete with domestically produced goods. However, Trump has gone further and has weaponized tariffs, which actually may be needed for the present economic crisis.

Is Trump putting tariffs on American import of goods into Canada or tariffs on export of Canadian goods to the US? How does tariffs hurt the Canadian economy?

Why is Doug Ford so upset about Trump tariffs? Saying it like Trump is stabbing Canada?

China is really upset over the tariffs are all out trade war now.

Tariff's cause the prices of Canadian imports to increase. If people stop buying them it hurts Canada. If we are willing to pay the higher price it hurts us and doesn't affect Canada.

he still hasn't brought back his cheap sweatshop made crap that he slaps his name on ... so why would any other company?

Those "pledges" are just a means of stalling until Trump is no longer in office. They will make a show of returning production to the U.S., even purchasing land for their manufacturing plants. This alone can take years which plays into their hands. After Trump is gone the land can be sold at a profit. Or once here they can downgrade their production while still keeping overseas manufacturing going.
