Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy in Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey

Well, we know that Troy did exist and was a Greek colony. As far as the story goes, I guess that is up to the interpretation of the reader.
It's the intervention of the gods and goddesses that make it subject to fiction. Strip it out and what's left might be history. No matter what, Helen was not black.

I was referring to the comment about using a Turkish actress originally. Troy was not Turkish and Helen was not from there anyway.

Very true. No matter whether you think it was fiction or actual history. Helen was not Turkish. The left does this with women all the time. Cleopatra, likewise was Greek but they like to make her black.

Cleopatra, to be 100% correct, was Macedonian.

Was Homer writing as an accurate historian? Or was his description of Helen part of the fiction.
As accurate as the bardic traditions could preserve them. The original poem was based on actual events, but predated writing, so the bards had to remember them. Amazing feats to be honest.

Then Helen was not black. This move to blacken everything is insane.
