Every moment is precious.

Yesterday I said goodbye to one of my dearest friends. Abby....

Abby was almost 15, at a guess, since she was a young adult adopted from a shelter with an 8 week old pup in tow. We adopted out the pup but somehow, Abby grabbed our hearts and she stayed.

Abby was vivacious, lively, happy, with a curled up tail when excited. She was barky too...and opinionated yet, despite her opinions she never got into fights, never sought to climb the social ladder, was friend to Alpha and Omega alike and loved to do anything for treats.

We hiked, she was naughty, she could climb the fence (often found checking out the neighbors trash pile) - she was an effervescent bubble of energy - champaign in a canine body.

14 year of friendship, and sometimes, because she was so darn good, she didn't get the attention she deserved - but she was always the optimist.

I can't say enough good things.....she's a lesson in person, that someone's "trash" is another person's "gem" - I'll never understand why she remained unadopted in a shelter....she could have had a home many times over. I was blessed and I so miss her. She has staked out permanent acerage in my heart.

So....hug your oldsters...your old furry friends, kind of shaggy, lumpy, bony maybe....maybe they have bad breath now....and maybe, not always "there"....everyday is a gift. Appreciate it...someday it will be a memory...

RIP to your gorgeous Abby. :(
It is always sad when we have to say goodbye to a pet, they are our some of our greatest loved ones, always there when we need them...

(((((Coyote)))))
I am so sorry...there are no words...just know that she will always be around...you'll feel her, smell her...maybe even hear her...when she wants to come and say hi.
RIP Miss Abby♥

So sorry for your loss.

I lost my old BC Jake last year. He was a gem. A great herding dog. Smart as a whip and biddable as hell. He was always just a great dog.

Your Abby looks like a Corgi mix. Such a lovely girl.

I agree. Cherish the old dogs. They mean so much and can teach a younger dog so much. They give a lifetime of love.

Abby will always be in your heart. Just where she should be.

What a gorgeous girl.

I have a two year old boy dog that could be her pup.

He looks alot like her.

I got him when he was 7 months old and had been tossed in someones back yard and ignored.

He knew nothing when I got him.

He is such a good boy and like your girl has a real will of his own.

He LOVES everyone.

he does think hes the referee at the dog park and I have to make sure he doesnt break up play he thinks might be aggression.

He listens well after being laid down and embarrassed a little for his efforts.

Cattle dog , aussie is what he his.

Your girl looks so much like him.

I hope the pain eases for you.

They are so wonderful to have in our lives.

The best medicine is another one.

So sorry for the loss of your precious Abby. She is beautiful. I see intelligence in those eyes. They are everything to us. Simply everything. As precious as children of our blood.

I have a soft spot for the herding dogs - most of my dogs have been of those breeds. Abby was supposed to have been an aussie, back when I first started out in Aussie rescue, and based on a description I said I'd take her. I think she was a sheltie-BC mix. She had the sheltie sparkle, and mouth (yup she was a barker) :)

Thanks TM :) I have 4 other dogs so my home isn't dogless, but it lacks Abby's special sparkle. It never ceases to amaze me how someone elses "trash dog" can be such a gem. All of my aussies have been "play nazi's" - no one is allowed to play but them, one on one. It's their need to control movement but some dogs don't appreciate the bites on the butt.

So sorry for your loss. What a great looking dog. I know how hard it is, we just lost one of our dogs 4 months after losing the first one-they were 12.

We now have a new puppy. A happy, energetic little soul.

Dogs are family to us-enjoy every moment. Thanks for sharing and sorry again for the loss of a dear friend.

The herding dogs rock. I've had two BC's in my life any many German Shepherds. They are the smartest and most loyal dogs on the planet.

I've trialed both bc's at herding events and done Shutzhund and obedience with my GSD's. I had Red, my first BC, in both herding and obedience and of course he excelled at both.

Again. So sorry for your loss. She' looks like just a wonderful dog. Heck. My current GSD mix is named Abbey as well. She's a gem. A stray that I adopted fromt he pound.

I am sorry to read about the loss of you canine companion, Coyote.

I totally get that the loss of a loved pet is much like the loss of a loved human.

Hang in there, amigo.
