Property owners must have their sidewalks cleared of snow and ice by noon of the day following a snow or ice storm.

This is so that the very people that stomped the snow into an impossible to remove layer of ice in the first place won't slip as they repeatedly trod over the sidewalk.

They`re assuming that everyone is in good health and hasn`t got a job to go to. A stupid ordinance.

If this is Madison Wisconsin it's just left loon nonsense

The City removes our snow for us here in Southwest Florida

Public easement laws are bullshit.
Its considered public property, but the property "owner" is responsible.
I agree we need public easements, but the local ordinance should be responsible for it since its public.
The good news is that the ordinance is not widely enforced, nor indeed can be. The city usually depends on complaints by citizens. They don't drive around looking for unshoveled sidewalks.

They certainly do on Main Street. You've never cursed at a lazy ass landlord that didn't have someone shovel the sidewalk in front the commercial building they own? I certainly have.

But who is it that imports so many lunatics to Florida? As humorist and Florida resident Dave Barry put it. "there`s 21 million people living in Florida and just because 20 million of them are crazy, the entire state gets a bad rap".

Do you curse at a lot of people?

That's the reason we don't have sidewalks in my neighborhood.

The town wanted to come in and narrow the road to put a sidewalk in.

Residents asked that since the sidewalk would be totally on town property if the town would be responsible to clear away snow.

They said no, residents would, so we said no. I guess that was about 30 years ago, damn glad of it now that I'm older.

Get some salt?
The War Department, er, er, My Dear Wife and I used to make an annual trip up North during the holidays and one year we got caught in a bad blizzard, complete with Black Ice and snow near the Georgia border.

The State of Florida doesn't own one single Snow Removal or Salt truck. Back then it didn't anyway.

It was taking your life in your hands to go out on I-75. Bad news. The minute, I mean the very first inch, when we got to the Georgia line the roads were pristine.
It's not all RumRunners and Sun Tans down here. Try going through a Cat 5 Hurricane. I have. It's kinda fun exccept for losing power. Which also means you lose your A/C when it's 95 degrees and 100% humidity. That ain't so much fun.

Meanwhile, I can rub it in..... Until the Summer 😨

I've got a quarter mile long driveway--if I don't plow it, I'm snowed in. LOL. Glad I don't live in the city.
