Freedom and the welfare state are incompatible. Even if foreign workers are prevented from getting welfare directly, they benefit from a market where low wage jobs are either illegal (because of minimum wage laws), or simply aren't getting filled by people who are receiving benefits. Walls are a deterrent when they are completed. If I have a warehouse and put a solid 8-foot wrought iron fence around it, it deters people from entry. If I take panels out of the fence, not so much.
