Let's Eliminate Government-Mandated Handicapped Parking Spots.

If we’re gonna go down that road, many people with disabilities became that way due to chronic conditions largely brought about by poor lifestyle choices.

And I’m not just talking about obesity

Are we going to evaluate each of them to determine if they “deserve” a handicap space?
Not a bad idea. Maybe current smokers shouldn't get them either. I like the way you think.

I would add this; If you smoke, drink to excess, or have a BMI of 40, taxpayers shouldn't insure your fat ass.

Pay attention Dems. This is the kind of crap you'll hear constantly if you succeed in socializing health care. And every few years, people like this will win, and they'll **** with your health care. Is that really what you want??

What evidence do you have that this occurs other than your suspicious mind?

No evidence, other than watching someone driving a vehicle with a placard park in the handicap spot, and their kid gets out of the vehicle to go into the store, or, people who park in handicap spot that are fairly young people who are jovially walking into the store

You're not suggesting that handicap parking abuse doesn't occur, are you?

Democrats would never do that. That's their base. I guess I should add in pot smokers.

Wait. You said SSI had nothing to do with disability and cursed me for saying so. I proved it does. You just got busted, so you need to apologize.
Disability has very little to do with SSI. You can be disabled and not have SSI. You can be blind and not have SSI. You can be poor and not get SSI. You claimed that all people on SSI were frauds. You should try reading the shit you post.

Ever notice that no other poster ever comes to your defense? It is because you are wrong, won't admit it, and are generally an asshole about every topic.

No, but you cannot prove those people do not rightfully are allowed to park there. Can you?

But you said SSI has nothing to do with disability, and you cursed me for saying so, but I provided the link that shows otherwise. Please be a man and admit it and apologize. Thanks.

I think some more thought should go into how many HCP spaces are allotted. They have 8 at my gym, and I have never seen more than two of them occupied, although I acknowledge that it is bizarre to complain about having to take a couple extra steps to go in and work out. Sorry.

Is it fair to generalize and say those fukkers are the worst parkers on the planet? Never straight in the space. If they are allowed to drive a car, then they should be competent to park it, eh?

Sorry, I don't subscribe to the idea that the customer is always right. I prefer the traditional German approach of professionalism and honesty over catering to every whim of a customer.

As soon as the American system started playing the collective rights game of pandering to identity groups, it opened the door to all sorts of entitlement behavior. I don't think any group is entitled to someone else's resources, including parking spaces.

It should be a voluntary courtesy that a business can extend or not extend.

True, but he's not wrong...

I always find it funny how auto insurance is allowed to discriminate based on sex and age but not on race. Young males generally pay a higher rate on auto insurance due to higher accident rates, but they don't further analyze that certain races get in more accidents than others. If those 2 metrics are ok to charge more accordingly, then why aren't other metrics?

I think he is. If we get saddled with welfare shit we should work to get rid of it. We should not use it as an excuse for trying to control people. We shouldn't let it be a justification for more bad government.

Yeah. The attempt to make discrimination illegal is overreaching government, and we need to abandon it. One might argue that it was necessary to heal a society corrupted by slavery, but it's no way to govern a free country.

No argument here, although I would say that it would be nice if consumers of private insurance could choose what "pools" to participate in. For example, if I eat healthy and regularly exercise while not having any significant long term health issues, I should be able to pay less overall for my coverage than someone who doesn't fit that criteria. Even consumers of private insurance effectively subsidize the unhealthy.

Yes. Insurance badly needs deregulation. Government should only ensure that the contracts (eg insurance policies) are honored.

By that logic, someone paralyzed after crashing a motorcycle wouldn't be covered.

By that logic, my wife needing a knee replacement ALSO wouldn't be covered, since it's 100% due to "lifestyle choices."

…. Which was my point……

So...you want to deny athletes care.
You completely missed my point. I was responding to the poster who said obese people shouldn’t get the spaces because they “brought it on themselves”

I was pointing out that, by that logic, many handicapped people could be said to have brought it on themselves. My point was it’s an unkind train of thought
