Wow, Vietnam war stories from a protestor. Vietnam protestors weren't the "in your face" bunch that old lefties seem to recollect. They were cowards like Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn who bombed corporations and recruitment centers and gunned down Cops and Brinks guards to finance the revolution. Vietnam protestors were generally able bodied males who could have joined the Air Force or the Navy or the Coast Guard to fulfill their obligation at the time but they used Vietnam as an excuse not to serve their Country. In other eras they would have been hanged as traitors. Today they brag about the smell of tear gas.
Itâs not the leftists who are attempting to rewrite history here by pretending that the only people objecting to the Vietnam war were cowardly men who didnât want to fight for their nation.
The Vietnam war was not a battle to preserve the rights and freedoms of the American people. It was imperialistic incursion to prevent the spread of communism in a third world country in Asia with no strategic importance whatsoever. A waste of blood and treasure.
There was no reason to be in Viet Nam. No good came of it. An entire generation of young men was savaged and tormented by their experiences there and the residual PTSD, and emotional trauma of all they had seen and done there. They had no choice about going. They were drafted and sent to Vietnam to fight before their 20th birthday.
It wouldâve been one thing if the nation had been sending only volunteers to fight this useless and stupid war. But to send teenagers who had no choice in the matter, thousands of miles from home to fight a country whose people did not want them there, was insanity.
And here you are defending this idiocy, and claiming that the protesters were âun-Americanâ, âcowardlyâ and shouldâve been shot.
Still stupid after all these years.
Everyone on the left protested the Vietnam War.
I have one friend who signed up for a second tour of duty because he had a younger brother who was about to be drafted. The military had a policy to send only in son in a family to Viet Nam at a time. He stayed so his brother would never have to go.
The war wasnât being fought by brave men fighting for their country. It was fought by frightened teenagers, whose parents werenât rich enough or smart enough to get them out of the draft.
You post about Vietnam like it some shining example of American values and traditions, instead of a shit stain on your history. The land of freedom and opportunity forcing its young men into a senseless and futile war.
