Leftwing Media "Analysts" Are Baffled by the "Mysterious" One-Year Plunge in Crime.

Spoiler: It's Only a Mystery to Propagandists Who Won't Admit the Obvious

23 Deb 2026 ~~ Disinformation Expert Ace

How did crime plunge so suddenly -- so "unexpectedly," if you will -- the moment Weekend at Biden's was shuffled out of the White House to be replaced by a law-and-order, deportation-minded president?
The leftwing media insists this is a giant mystery whose depths cannot be plumbed.
They're lying, Drew Holden reports.
Crime--particularly violent crime--is down dramatically over the last year. Cities like New York, Memphis, and Washington, D.C. where murders, carjacking, and theft plagued the public in the wake of COVID-19, were all found to have experienced double-digit decreases in violent crime. Experts, the legacy media, and many Democrats are scratching their heads.
As a recent New York Times headline declared, "What's Behind the Staggering Drop in the Murder Rate? No One Knows for Sure."
Other outlets and commentators have been similarly befuddled. New York Magazine dubbed it "The Mysterious Plunge in America's Murder Rate." Experts "said it's too early to tell what is prompting the change," the Associated Press intoned; the Washington Post cited a liberal expert who cautioned that there was "no silver bullet" to make sense of the data. For TIME, the drop in violent crime "can be attributed to a kaleidoscope of factors, none of which can singularly or definitively account for the decline." CNN shrugged that "it's nearly impossible to zero in on any one reason" for the drop. "The bottom line: Experts aren't sure why violent crime continues to fall," Axios reported
Not until 21 paragraphs into the Times piece do the authors give us a hint about how it happened: experts "do not wholly discount" policing, particularly "the multipronged effort that many cities mounted against violence in the past few years, including hot-spot policing, summer jobs for youth, cognitive behavioral therapy and focused deterrence, an approach that calls for paying sustained attention to the small number of people at highest risk of committing violence."
In other words, violent crime is in freefall across the country thanks in large part to better, more targeted policing aimed at restoring law and order. The biggest threat to our renewed ability to combat crime might be a legacy media hamstrung by the baggage of prior anti-police animus.

Read the whole thing. In case after case, crime is down because, get this, cops started enforcing the law, usually with federal help.

Commentary:
What Democrats have refused to accept is that police department that enlisted Federal help showed the highest gains in crime reduction.
Democrats deliberate failure to to accept this fact are responsible for the violence under the Obama and Biden administrations.
Great piece. Note re Baltimore: the city has lost ONE-THIRD of its population since 1977, which means its per-capita murder rate today is still higher than its elevated rate in those years. (Only per capita rates matter.)
why compare crime rates to the 1970s, or 1990s (or especially to the Covid years)? We should compare violent crime rates to 1959, or 1930, etc. Tolerating violent crime is a choice, notwithstanding Democrat lies that urban crime is inevitable (just like their lie that illegal immigration can't be stopped). Police presence, incarceration, and mandatory minimums can basically solve violent crime. The Times' fantasy that "cognitive behavioral therapy" played a substantial role, and other liberal fictions, are largely meaningless.
As usual Democrat politics along with the Quisling and complicit Media refuse to accept or admit the facts.

You know if it was going up...they'd have the reason.

Crime fell under Biden 15%. Trump continued Biden's trend.

You know if it was going up...they'd have the reason.
Under Biden:
Crime is down, leftists immediately credit him.
Crime is up, media and Democrats blame white nationalist.

Remember how the media said to us that if Trump wins again, he will embolden white nationalist. So far, I witnessed three assassination attempts against him and mass shooters made up of Democrats voting trans.

No, it's not.

This info is very easy to find.

If it's true under Biden then it's true under Trump, and it would not matter one iota when comparing the statistics for the two...

The nation's violent and property crime rates dropped to a two-decade low in 2024, following the COVID-era surge in homicides, according to new FBI data released this week.

Why it matters: The numbers show crime was heading toward a 20-year record low in the last year of the Biden administration, despite President Trump's false campaign claims that President Biden was overseeing a nationwide crime spike.

No, that's not true....a regurgitated, made up lie.

I am not being a spelling nazi but you sentence has a double negative in it.

No, many states—both blue and red—did not report complete crime statistics to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for recent years, particularly in 2021 and 2022 due to a transition in the FBI's reporting system (NIBRS). While some major cities in blue states (e.g., Los Angeles, New York) failed to report data in 2021, significant gaps also existed in large states like Florida and Pennsylvania.
  • 2021-2022 Data Gaps: In 2021, California and Florida failed to submit timely, full-year data to the FBI. As of 2022, several states had less than 50% of their police departments reporting to the FBI.
The Biden administration faced scrutiny over its crime reporting, with House Republicans launching an investigation into the FBI's failure to report complete, accurate national crime data. Reports indicated that the FBI initially reported a 1.7% decrease in violent crime in 2022, but later revised this to a 4.5% increase, leading to questions about the reliability of the data.

Thanks Mack!

As the informative article says, both republicans and democrats in 2021 and 2022 did not fully report.

But in 2023 and 2024 under Biden the violent crime statistics WERE FULLY REPORTED, so 2024 under Biden ....was compared to an accurate 2023....and his violent murder rate was down 15% compared to the accurate 2023 figures....

President Trump's 2025 continued that trend and did improve on it....in 2025 the murder rate was down 21%.

But the op contentions that this is wigging out liberals is incorrect....we see it as a continuing trend of crime going down that began under Biden.

Remember, the highest murder rate this country has ever had, was under Trump's first term, in 2020.

Trump is getting rid of the law breakers, Biden let in. Not rocket science.

Its a two year plunge in crime with rates coming down every year under Biden from the Trump spike and falling off dramatically in 2024 with 2025 a smaller but still continued fall.
