Leftist Stupidity on Wages and Prices

In discussions on "minimum wage," Conservatives often stump Leftists with the simple question, "If $15/hr is good, then why not $50/hr? Wouldn't that be better?"

The assumption is that even a Leftist can understand that a $50/hr minimum wage would cause more problems than not.

But maybe they can't.

Here we have a law that imposes a MW of $20/hr on fast food workers in the Golden State. One wonders if anyone in that playground (legislature and governor's mansion) has ever actually had a job. It certainly doesn't seem like it.

Is it not obvious that,
  • This law will drive hundreds of thousands of small businesses out of business?
  • Fast food hours worked and headcount will drop precipitously?
  • Californians will be much less inclined to dine at fast food restaurants?
  • California restaurants will be devising hundreds of schemes NOT to be covered by this law?
Would you pay $20 for a Happy Meal?

You get the government you deserve. Manifestly.

Unemployment is at near record lows so not much.
Because people have to work 3 jobs in the Biden economy.
And it’s not near record lows. It was lower under Trump.

In my neck of the woods, most FF Joints are right around the 12-14 an hour rate.
The problem is that increasing the MW, just because you want to look like the good guy, has ramifications that many politicians will ignore.
My concern with Fast Food joints, is that a majority of them are franchises. They aren't owned by the Corporation. This means the FF restaurants not only have their expenses and costs they are responsible for, but also franchise fees that come right off the top. Some of these fees can be a greater amount if the owner needs to finance a portion of the upfront capital, like the actual building, or other capital that they may not have the actual cash on hand to pay for upfront, but increases the franchise fees, which reduces revenue.

By increasing the MW, because you can, doesn't necessarily fix anything. You'll raise the costs to the consumer. And current inflation, if it continues to rise, that $20.00 an hour will be back down to equally $15.00

What is absolutely ignored is this. FF joints were never meant to be careers. When I was younger they were starter jobs for teens, college kids, and maybe retirees who wanted something to do, a job and some income. Unfortunately we now have a segment of our population who for the last 20-30 years have made poor life choices, who have no skills to obtain career type employment. So we have politicians and the media that ignore those life choices and put the burden not on the individual to increase their professional equity and income but rather on the business owner regardless of the business model and if that model can sustain those wages.

That's problem.
