I attended a Church of Christ service last September in Alabama. I was visiting an old friend.

The elders immediately launched into a tirade against Hassidic Jews and Catholics. They actually took turns in the pulpit to do so!

And this was a CHURCH.

Our daughter was stunned, even though I had warned her about Alabama.

There was an elderly black woman seated in front of me. The only black person in the room.

It was only because we were with my old dear friend whose church it was, and did not want to embarrass her, that I didn't lean forward to ask the old black woman, "What do you think they say about Negroes when you aren't here?"

I've told people how much cheaper real estate is in Alabama, and then I say, "But then you have to live in Alabama."

I've lived in Alabama and Mississippi. They have not evolved much since Jim Crow.

I think it's ignorant to assume that just because somebody has a post graduate degree, they're super bright. I know several lawyers who are dumber than a fence post when it comes to the real world. They can tell you all about Vipbo vs. Ramsicle from 1956 but aren't blessed with any common sense, like the guy I know who spent $80,000 on new Genesis car and doesn't have room in his garage for it.
