The 1911 .45 is already plenty inaccurate enough for most people.

The shorter barrel's primary market appeal is to make it a better belly gun.

I'm sure this will be a real hit with the criminal class who need to hide their weapons on their person.

Cry me a river. With a 45 you generally don't even have to hit your target, a close miss will knock them down. Now personally I would not get a short barrel 45, the kick has got to be really bad and short barrels are as you noted less accurate.

As for the 1911, it is quite accurate when properly maintained and sighted. weak wristed liberals might find it hard to use but any one else should have little trouble with it.

Every Kimber I own is remarkably accurate. You make a good point though. This compact has an aluminum frame (bad for recoil) but has a weight forward bull barrel for flip. The laser should help me get off a quick second if I need to. It's for CCW only.

The Eclipse shown in my sig is my main battle weapon even though I generally stay away from shiny stainless components for night use. I have shot it against Wilson Customs and everything else and it always comes out on top. It gives me one hole groups at 25yds. all day long if I do my part. Never seen anything like it. It's a good 'un. It's nice to talk to someone who knows their stuff. Drive on.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting a Glock in 9mm or .45 for personal defense, since I've heard good things about their reliability...but my Navy bud has almost sold me on the 1911. I'm not sure yet, since it would be my first gun.

I personally wish the open carry movement would pick up some steam and some social acceptance...I can only imagine how much crime would be affected if certain elements could actually SEE how many people walking up and down the street are armed. I was wondering if y'all had any thoughts on that?

Whats the matter with Glocks? I have had a Glock 27 for years and have had no problems with it. They are easy to disassemble and clean and I shoot fairly well with one. And the 27 is compact which fits perfectly in my small hand. As for a 1911 I think RGS is correct. Seeing as I have weak wrists I find it hard to use.

BTW....I am a girl and I am NOT a liberal.

If you're looking for a real Combat Pistol, I'd spend good money and get a Kimber or Wilson 1911.(Wilson's are WAY expensive.)

I think the Glock is more of a "Police" pistol but I can't really find a damned thing wrong w/ them except the horrible trigger pull. I have a Glock22 that I put a trigger kit in and when I was done I still had creep and only picked up 1/4 lb. reduction in pull. Still, if I didn't have a 1911, I'd take a Glock into combat anytime.

Glocks are so simple to maintain it's remarkable. And they ARE indestructable. And very accurate. But that damn trigger pull in a stressed up environment causes me to tend to pull my shot. Still, I won't put 'em down. They are great weapons.

If this is your first weapon, and you choose to go w/ a 1911, get some basic training w/ someone who knows 'em. It takes a little above avg. skill to handle them safely. They CAN bite you in the ass if you're not careful. If you are carrying in full battery (cocked and locked) and you're the least bit careless about the status of the safety, and you have the grip safety depressed it takes just a very light tap on the trigger to make it go. They are touchy. Just a heads up.

I own a Springfield TRP which I absolutely love. Picked it up LNIB (with ~100 rds through it) for $800. 2K+ rds and without so much as a hiccup.

RE: Glocks. Most CA LE agencies don't allow non-SWAT to carry single-action sidearms, so Glocks are out of the question for the average officer. 1911s seem to be the top choice for LEOs that are allowed to carry SAs even when they have the option of a Glock. In fact, Kimber designed the TLE II specifically for LAPD SWAT and the SIS for the Special Investigation Section.

I just don't like the striker mechanism on Glocks. Plus I've heard of a number of agencies in other states barring officers from carrying them because of mishaps that have occured at police shooting ranges (though anyone who's ever been to an IDPA shoot can tell you the problem could easily be the officers as opposed to the pistols themselves).

I have nothing but high praise and fondness for my Colt 1911. So much so that I am considering purchasing another. It's as accurate as my eyes and my stance allow.

For home defense I rely on my trusty Mossberg.

There has always been a big debate between the advantages of a small fast bullet or the slow fat bullet.

I've done all that over and over. Nothing, and I mean nothing will help you regain or maintain the integrity of your environment better than the .45acp. The 9mm just don't cut it.

A compromise is the .40S&W. Not bad but not the best.

The .45 WILL end the fight. The .357 is a killer but over-penetrates and exits the back of the target thus wasting alot of energy and it's hard to control on a double-tap. The .45 will take off an arm and it's very controllable.

Just my two cents. There will, no doubt be alot of other opinions from the other side. Good luck.

Just as big a hit, I'll warrant, with thier potential victims, who also might enjoy unobtrusively bearing the weapon on their person--and a bit of a surprise for your "criminal class" that the mark can shoot back, provided you don't legislate in favor of the criminal's safety..

Sense. Shotguns are best for home defense--handguns are for personal defense.

again I will say it here, I don't care if it is a .45 or 9mm if you hit in vital areas the bad guys go down.

I carry a Glock... every day. I carried a 1911 made at Quantico for a number of years and found it was a great pistol however, teaching has made me a fan of the Glock. The one great thing about it is that fewer moving parts means less parts that can break. the one big issue with most 1911s. The other great thing about a glock is it is great out ot the box where a custom 1911 might need some break in.

Kimbers are great pistols and I was glad to see the USMC choose them to make the new .45 for MARSOC. Kimber dose a great job of giving you what you pay for, just watch for failures to feed in the first 500 rounds or so due to the tight fit they come with. a quick fix for that is a little jewlers paste on the rails for break in. gives it the play that it would take a lot of break in ammo to get.
