Kentucky child killer walks free on 'good behavior,' gets arrested again within days

Ronald Exantus was released early from 20-year sentence for stabbing 6-year-old Logan Tipton in Kentucky home invasion

11 Dec 2025 ~~ By Louis Casiano

A man who was released from prison early after racking up good behavior credits following his conviction for fatally stabbing a 6-year-old Kentucky boy during a 2015 home invasion was arrested weeks later for violating his parole.
Ronald Exantus, 42, of Indianapolis, was serving a 20-year sentence for the killing of Logan Tipton, who was brutally slain in his Versailles, Kentucky, home, when he was released back onto the streets in October.
Despite confessing, Exantus was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity at trial. Instead, a jury found him guilty of the other assaults on Logan's family during the home invasion.
The release came after he accumulated credits that allowed him to shave nine years off his sentence.
"Something needs to be changed because it cannot be that easy. You’ve committed a very heinous crime, and it’s just given to you," Logan’s sister, Kora Tipton, said of Exantus’ early release.
On Oct. 1, Exantus was released before moving to Marion County, Florida. However, he was arrested eight days later for failing to register as a convicted felon with the local sheriff’s office within 48 hours of arriving, which was required by the conditions of his parole, the New York Post reported.
He has since been extradited to Kentucky. However, he could be released next year with no parole restrictions.
"There’s no reason for any of us to ever have to walk down the street and possibly see our son’s murderer," Dean Tipton, Logan’s father, told WKYT-TV earlier this week.

In response to Exantus' release, state Rep. T.J. Roberts is pushing for Logan's Law, a bill that would abolish mandatory reentry supervision.
"We’re going to make it to where if an individual is charged with multiple crimes for the same incident like we had here, you can’t have a split verdict on sanity versus insanity," Roberts said.

Commentary:
Not guilty for murder due to insanity, but sane enough to be guilty of “lesser” crimes. How can you not despise lawyers (not all), judges (not all), legislatures (not all) and the system? It’s just like Bidet, too old to really know what he’s saying or doing, but hey, good enough to run the country...
In this case, Ronald Exantus was found mentally unfit to be tried for murder but sane enough to charged and convicted of the assaults of the other family members. How is that possible. Doesn’t make sense at all.
Letting violent offenders free has to stop. The only solution is that the judge who releases them has to be held accountable for what they do. Have them live with the judges for 6 months if they feel this is such a great idea.
Mental illness is a scam used by defense attorneys to get people released or charged with lesser crimes.
It should play no roll in determining the conviction or the sentence or length. The only role should be to allow treatment while in prison.
Bad seeds need to be gleaned and cleansed from the pack. Without doing so you weaken the pack.

Sounds like horseshit to me. But then, the entire legal system is built on horseshit. I can count on one hand the number of lawyers, judges, and doctors I have any actual respect for.

The legal system is broken

This killer took a life and should never walk the streets again

But he will thanks to bleeding heart libs

Mental illness is not a scam but indeed it makes no sense (the verdict).

Even then, John Hinkley spent more time locked up than that.

We need our own devils island where he live out his days...away from us.

Unless you go off in a rage and blow him away.

Then plead temporary insanity.

I'd give you that.

Not a day of jail time.

Justice served.

I wish we had a "fury" emoji on this site. It's needed for cases like this.

I agree with Matt Walsh on the subject of violence:

Africa needs money and jobs. I bet they would house ten thousand of these sorts of killers for about $5k per year. That $50 million or the sheet budget for CA jails .

PRESIDENT Trump was trying to do it for criminal illegals until StaiN judges got involved. Do it. Hust do it. Africa needs work dammmeeet. Saves money too.

If they escape over there? Good luck getting back over and in. Who stabs a 5yr old in the skull hard enough to kill him? I remeber this killer I think?

The legal system is broken

You cannot prosecute anyone for a crime now because everything takes years and millions of dollars. Then you get an uncertain result at best. Look at the Charlie Kirk killer: cut and dry, yet, here we are three months later and they are only now beginning the case by arguing whether the media should be allowed in the room! NO ONE IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM is actually concerned with justice.

Justice is just common sense, there is no common sense in law.
  • No one in the legal process is concerned with finding justice because true justice is determined by the victim, the LAST person the legal system is concerned with; all they care about are the rights of the accused (yet their jails are full of innocent people).
  • The prosecutor only cares about winning the case and finding the defendant guilty, WHATEVER THE FACTS ARE.
  • The Defender is only concerned with getting his client off.
  • All the judge cares about is whether proper legal PROCEDURE is adhered to.
And over the years, the justice system has built up a convoluted maze of barriers to justice that only a highly skilled and practiced lawyer can find his way through to get his desired result, and such lawyers are reserved for the rich.

Which is why the jails are full of poor people. The justice system uses the poor as scapegoats to fill up cells so it looks like they are actually getting anything done when the real goal of the legal system is to make judges and lawyers NECESSARY and to keep them all working and well paid.

Crazy or not when they murder someone the punishment should be equivilent

Life in prison

I had a cousin who went nuts back in the 1960s. He was just so smart I guess that one day, he just snapped at all the bullshit and went off into deep end. While in grade school, he designed a new plan for a public school that turned out so good that they ended up using it to make an actual school building.

They ended up giving him 18 shock treatments then put him on heavy meds. I guess he was a teenager then. I was just a little kid but I barely remember being taken to visit him at whatever mental hospital he was in.

Of course the guy was never normal again, they had him on stuff that would knock out a horse and he lived with an aunt and uncle the rest of his life. But if they could bring my cousin around (he actually held down a job and worked after that), they can bring this idiot around, make him cognizant of his crime, stand him up for trial, convict his ass and push him out of a plane at 30,000 feet where the giant squid fish for stuff to eat.

Holy-self-impeachment Batman.

Wow. And you supposedly have some sort of advanced degree?

Which is it? Are the jails full or can we "not prosecute anyone for a crime"?

Plea bargain much you dumb back bencher? You kill somebody pre-meditated. They give you manslaughter if you agree to no trial.

Wow, if the first thing can't be done the right way which is making sure that the proper charges are brought against any monster, I guess that the lesson to be learned here is don't expect anything else to go the way that it should go either.

God bless you and the family always!!!

Holly

P.S. An early release for anyone who is guilty of murder whether they are charged with murder or not should never be in anyone's card deck. Even if the full sentence had been served, it still would've been just a slap on the wrist. The monster would then been released the year of what would've been the victim's 26th birthday. Right now, the victim would only just now be getting his driver's license. :( :( :(

I would have no problem with changing our legal system from "NOt Guilty by reason of insanity" to "Guilty, but insane". The thing is, the standard for legal insanity is so high that very few people reach it.

In this case, Ronald Exantus was found mentally unfit to be tried for murder but sane enough to charged and convicted of the assaults of the other family members. How is that possible. Doesn’t make sense at all.

I think the problem here is how legal insanity is defined. Not that you are merely mentally ill, (36% of incacerted individuals have some kind of mental illness), but that your mental illness prevented you from understanding the seriousness of your actions. The fact he had the presense of mind to plan the home invasion shows he wasn't insane in the assaults, but the murder was argued to be a act of madness

Mental illness is a scam used by defense attorneys to get people released or charged with lesser crimes.

Not really true. Most people who are found NGBRI spend more time locked up than people who are straight-up found guilty.

It should play no roll in determining the conviction or the sentence or length. The only role should be to allow treatment while in prison.
Bad seeds need to be gleaned and cleansed from the pack. Without doing so you weaken the pack.

That sounds a bit, crazy.

Again, no problem with replacing "Guilty, but insane" for NGBRI pleas. Then these people can get the treatment they need and then spend whatever is an appropriate time when they are "well".
