Child shoots, kills 2 home intruders in self-defense, police say

A child shot and killed two men during a home invasion in Kentucky, officials said.

MANCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT/Gray News) – A child shot and killed two men during a home invasion in Kentucky, officials said.

According to Kentucky State Police, troopers were dispatched to the home in Manchester around 4:30 a.m. Saturday for reports of a shooting.

When troopers arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds.

Jeffrey Allen, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene. Roger Smith, 44, was transported to an area hospital but later died.

Police said that the two men had broken into the home with the intention of stealing firearms from a safe.

During the break-in, a juvenile living in the home saw the men holding firearms. Acting in self-defense, police said, the child retrieved a handgun and shot both men before escaping through a bedroom window.

Police did not give the exact age of the child who shot the alleged intruders.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

I see a few problems here.

1. The two men obviously had some previous knowledge of the guns there so likely knew the family but also should have realized the risks.
2. Where were the adults in the house? Why was the child left to respond himself? Was the child home alone? A child left home alone with access to guns is probably a serious firearms violation. The adults there could be facing criminal prosecution by the state and even by the families of the deceased.
3. That has got to read badly on your death report, that you broke into a home looking to steal guns but were stopped instead and killed by a child there. Not exactly bragging rights had you lived and gone to jail. "What are you in for?" "An 11 year old gunned me down while I was trying to steal the family gun collection."
4. Lastly, give the kid a cigar for shooting two adult invaders and getting 2:2 kill shots on both of them.

Lessons Learned: Never brag about what you have to strangers.

Did the two intruders threaten or attempt to harm the kid? Looks to me like the kid ambushed them unaware. That would be Murder-2.

Maybe you should go back to grade school and learn how to construct a sentence, smartass.
