Most Republicans say Trump didn’t even try to overturn the election

The Economist and YouGov this week became the latest to publish a head-scratching poll showing Republicans rejecting basic facts about Trump and his legal jeopardy.

The poll asked people whether Trump was “involved in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia.” He, of course, was. Myriad pieces of evidence make that abundantly clear. We have a literal recording of him asking Georgia’s secretary of state to “find” just enough votes to overcome his deficit, and Trump on the call explicitly cited “flipping” the results in the state.

But to most Republicans, this apparently never happened. Just 18 percent in the YouGov poll said Trump was involved in trying to overturn Georgia’s results, compared to 59 percent who say he wasn’t.
It’s now the second poll to show the vast majority of Republicans saying Trump wasn’t even involved in trying to overturn the election. YouGov asked similar, non-Georgia-specific questions in August. Republicans said just 38-30 percent that there was an attempt to overturn the election. That’s shocking in and of itself. But then it showed only half of that 38 percent said Trump was personally involved.

If Repubs can deny Trump's involvement in the attempt to overturn the election then their capacity for distorting reality knows no limit. The danger this capacity poses, having millions of people making their perception of reality conform to what they want it to be, can not be overstated.

Most Republicans say Trump didn’t even try to overturn the election

There's really no way of knowing what they even know. We do know that much is kept from them in their separate informational ecosystem, and what they DO know is often distorted by that same ecosystem. So it's entirely possible they're being completely honest in the survey.

And that's the fuckin' problem.

The FBI said that Trump did NOT incite the riot, dumbass.
“President Trump oversaw a sophisticated seven-part plan to overturn the 2020 election and prevent the transition of presidential power.

  1. President Trump engaged in a massive effort to spread false and fraudulent information to the American public claiming the 2020 election was stolen from him.
  2. President Trump corruptly planned to replace the Acting Attorney General, so that the Department of Justice would support his fake election claims.
  3. President Trump corruptly pressured Vice President Pence to refuse to count certified electoral votes in violation of the US Constitution and the law.
  4. President Trump corruptly pressured state election officials, and state legislators, to change election results.
  5. President Trump’s legal team and other Trump associates instructed Republicans in multiple states to create false electoral slates and transmit those slates to Congress and the National Archives.
  6. President Trump summoned and assembled a violent mob in Washington and directed them to march on the US Capitol.
  7. As the violence was underway, President Trump ignored multiple pleas for assistance and failed to take immediate action to stop the violence and instruct his supporters to leave the Capitol.

The plot was not confined to the events of Jan. 6.

Democrats also still deny that the whole "Russia" thing was a made up scenario to deflect from losing to a loser.

One side really is no better than the other.

you are so fucking trump deranged........you whack to your trumpie teddy bear and facialize it daily huh you butt fuggin retard.lol

Sustaining the belief RICO Don did not attempt to remain in power goes beyond willful ignorance. I don't like being redundant because doing so tends to make words lose their impact but I can think of no other way to explain this level of denial other than to say it mirrors cult-like behavior.

Well, I went about three years purposely avoiding that word because it seemed hyperbolic. But it reached a point at which it became perfectly reasonable.

Does acting like a troll, spewing obscenities and gratuitous insults, does it really make you feel better? Wouldn't it be more satisfying if you could make a cogent argument? Oh......wait......you can't. Never mind.

OMG!!! They posted some Meme's. Impeach him!!!!

LOL

Agreed. The word cult has all sorts of connotations invoking thoughts of completely bizarre behavior. Manson's followers and the branch Davidians come to mind. It's a powerful word. However, nothing else I'm aware of can adequately explain blocking out the acknowledgement of a documented historical event. They're like holocaust deniers.

Republicans excel at rejecting basic facts about everything – not just the fact that Trump engaged in a treasonous effort to overturn the 2020 election.
It's as though the further away from the events we get the greater influence right wing media lies have on their thinking.

Let's take a moment and consider the magnitude of what the poll reveals. Because we are so inundated with shocking info these days I think we've often become numb to it.

"It’s now the second poll to show the vast majority of Republicans saying Trump wasn’t even involved in trying to overturn the election."

This represents a belief in a bigger lie than the Big Lie. The author calls it "head-scratching." It's far more than that.

What's next?

Denying he had a revolving door of corrupt cabinet appointees? Believing he did not fire numerous IG's that were looking in to the admin? Thinking he did not side with Putin in Helsinki? Refusing to admit 26 women accused him of sexual assault?
