A devastated Washington Post journalist slammed the paper for laying her off while she risked her life reporting from a war zone in Ukraine.

Correspondent Lizzie Johnson spoke out after the Post announced mass layoffs to staff during an internal Zoom call on Wednesday morning.

'I was just laid off by The Washington Post in the middle of a warzone,' Johnson wrote on X.

She added: 'I have no words. I'm devastated.'

Johnson also shared a post she had written earlier describing the harsh conditions she worked under in Ukraine, including waking up 'without power, heat, or running water.'

'But the work here in Kyiv continues,' she wrote. 'Warming up in the car, writing in pencil — pen ink freezes — by headlamp.'




Was she laid off and is she on her own to get home or are they bringing her home?

If she is abandoned that is ridiculous but getting her out of Ukraine and bringing her home is different.

There are flights out of Kiev every day or so.

Her X post is lacking in those facts I note....No wonder they got shed of her.

It’s kind of amusing that her and others seem to think Bezos should spare their jobs. Sorry, but you work for a paper that isn’t profitable and has been bleeding revenue for quite sometime.

If they don’t make wholesale changes all the staff/contractors will eventually get fired as there won’t be a company anymore....Then again the sane know this.

The Post lost over 300,000 subscribers when Bezos pulled the WP editorial endorsing Harris over Trump. Bezos said holding the Post was “a sacred trust.” Well, it was until he had to choose between the WP and his government contracts. Bezos is not below graveling to get what he wants. Kow-tow to Trump or lose. Even billionaires lose their spine when it comes to the buck.
