Johns Hopkins University Plans Lay Offs After Trump Administration Cut Off 800 Million US Dollar Funding

How much of that goes to STEM and how much to obscure academic social stuff?

Also going back to the initial information released by DOGE, how much of that goes to the studies, and how much went as overhead to the university management blob?
These kind of hand outs by the government usually ends up as 'administrative costs' anyways.
Little goes to what it was initially targeted for. Bloated administration, bloated government, all
on the tax payers dime.
Any one see a pattern here?

Federal spending on STEM medical research is bad now?
In his message, Daniels described a “more than eight-decade partnership with the federal government” for research.

In fiscal 2024, more than half of Johns Hopkins’s total operating revenue came from $4.8 billion in sponsored research revenue. About 88% of that figure came from the federal government.
‘Perplexing and distressing’: Johns Hopkins warns of budget cuts amid Trump-era funding chaos.

Not like they are going to shutter the doors, Zinc. :rolleyes-41:

Better tighten up that aluminum hat.

The med school still has wacky shit like this on their website:

www.hopkinsmedicine.org

School of Medicine Diversity

www.hopkinsmedicine.org
www.hopkinsmedicine.org

My tax dollars don't need to be funding the "queer alliance" at Johns Hopkins. It's a private school, let their donors pay for that.

Not seeing why cut anything. Instead we need more MUCH MORE STEM research to compete with China.

Show me where that 800 million was from stem research. In fact, if you read the article, everything
is kind of vague on JH's narrative. "Contemplating", "Possiblity", "Preparing".......
This is more like the left wing media sounding the alarm that the sky is falling.
Zinc, 88% of the 4+ billion is grants is quite a large sum from the taxpayers.
Taking 800 million off the table still leaves quite a kitty for JH.

This is fair. From other articles:
"For our colleagues involved with medical and public health work around the globe, the unexpected stoppage of foreign aid funds has resulted in the suspension and now termination of most of our USAID grant portfolio at Jhpiego, the Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Center for Communication Programs, and the School of Medicine, which totals more than $800 million. Because of these funding terminations, we are in the process of winding down USAID grant-related activities in Baltimore and internationally, including impactful work to provide maternal and infant care, prevent the spread of diseases, and provide clean drinking water."

"The administration’s effort to dismantle USAID has also landed hard on Johns Hopkins. The $800-million reduction in USAID funding supported efforts such as maternal and infant care, disease prevention and clean drinking-water initiatives. "

Sounds like they need to prioritize and reset like the real world does.
If you don't think there isn't pork in that 4+ billion, I have some property in Florida
I'll sell you.

The taxpayer free dime is over, time for these institutions to pay their own ******* way! :-)

Medical research shouldn't be something we have a problem spending money for.
