Governor Jan Brewer and Intel Announce Massive Expansion in Arizona
Multi-Billion-Dollar Investment to Generate Significant Number of New Jobs for Arizonans
PHOENIX, AZ (October 19, 2010) – Arizona Governor Jan Brewer joined executives from Intel Corporation today to announce the company’s plans to invest between $6 billion – $8 billion in manufacturing to support future technology advancements in its American facilities – including Intel’s factory site in Chandler. The investment will support the creation of 6,000 to 8,000 construction jobs and 800 to 1,000 new permanent high-tech jobs in the United States, a significant portion coming to Arizona.
“For thirty years Intel has contributed significantly to Arizona’s economic prosperity, through its break-through technologies and creation of high-paying jobs which generate stability and economic activity,” stated Governor Brewer. “Today’s announcement further demonstrates that Arizona is competitive when our policies create an environment which supports innovation, rewards investment, minimizes government intervention and encourages productivity. Arizona is competing, and we are witnessing the benefits.”
Intel’s investment will fund deployment of its next-generation 22-nanometer manufacturing (nm) process across several existing U.S. factories, including Intel’s factory site in Chandler. Intel’s next-generation, 22nm microprocessor will enable sleeker device designs, higher performance and longer battery life at lower costs.
