When Iran lobs rockets at a military base -- not a civilian neighborhood, a military base -- we pick some iranian targets and destroy them. What would be our response, if they did the same thing to a suburb of a city in Florida? It would be magnified 10 fold. And democrats and republicans would be hugging each other and singing the national anthem together.
And no developed nation in the world could honestly claim otherwise for themselves. Yet here we are, so far down the rabbit hole in the murk of iron age myths and dysfunctional race discussion, that we are debating whether or not Israel should bomb targets in Palestine. What a stupid race we can be sometimes. What we should be discussing is why we are all seemingly complicit with the state of affairs of two peoples warring over iron age religious belief.
This is how reformation happens. We need to reform our global view of ancient religion and stop giving it automatic deference it does mot deserve. When viewed through this lens, the conflict is simplified and more.clear. if the first world started having discussions starting eith, "Religion is nice and all, but it is no excuse for this. This will not stand. Israel should cease to be a Jewish nation and should become a secular nation that abides by international standards of human rights (or substitute Palestine or any of Israel's muslim neighbors). It's time to separate the fanatics from the enlightened.
