He's actually always had a good read on the US Electorate. He was one of the few who yelled a warning that Clinton's Assault Weapons Ban threatened the Dems hold on the South, which they had in 1992. They then lost the House in the 1994 blood bath, and since 1996, have lost most of the South and States with a strong hunting culture.
