Alfonzo Brown allegedly rigged a booby-trap that claimed the life of a relative.
An incarcerated South Carolina man's booby-trapped home claimed the life of a relative who stopped by to check on the place, according to authorities.

Jordon Dove, 34, went to check on the home of Alfonzo Brown who was incarcerated out of state. When Dove attempted to open the back door of the residence, he was hit by a shotgun blast, Calhoun County Sheriff's police said.

Dove initially survived but later succumbed to his wounds. Police arrived and carefully approached the home.

"It was believed at that time, the residence may have been booby trapped. A perimeter was set up around the residence as deputies slowly made entry into the home," police stated

They found the shotgun rigged to go off should someone attempt to open the back door. The front of the home was barricaded to prevent anyone from entering, police said.

"He had taken a shotgun and screwed it to a stud in the wall and had it aimed towards the door. And then he had for lack of a better term a pipe pressed up against the trigger wedged into the door and the door opened inwards so when you opened it, it pushed the trigger and fired the blast," Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers told WIS-10.

The station reported that Brown was being held in Maryland for his alleged involvement in a non-deadly triple shooting.

It looks like he is a long-time felon who figured the cops would come to his abode at some point.

It wasn't a home protection booby trap, it was a premeditated murder booby trap.

The irony is that he whacked a family member instead. Certainly, this will earn him the love and respect of his extended family......And an empty canteen account......No Ramen noodles for him.

Was this relative asked to "check-on" the place?

I first heard of this around 1990 in Colorado, some guy was tired of his barn or shed being broken into so he set up a shotgun to go off if someone broke in, and someone breaking in got killed by a shotgun blast. I remember the story now because of all the support he had back then, and it was the first time I had heard of this booby trap.

He still ended up going to prison for it.

I remember one where a guy had a .30-06 cut-down and wired to a door but the dumb shit ended-up killing himself when he forgot about it!
