Afghanistan: Villagers Attack Taliban Over Music


Villagers attacked Taliban rebels who had blockaded a road and were confiscating music cassettes from passing cars in southern Spin Boldak and saying music is forbidden by Islam, officials said. Two militants and a villager were killed. Ten militants had seized dozens of cassettes from travelers before the villagers attacked, said Abdul Wasai, the government chief in the district.

I suspect that the villagers feel just a little more empowered otherwise they would have just hid in their houses.

As much as I love to see the U.S. kicking tail on behalf of these oppressed people, what I love even more is seeing them kick tail for themselves. It lets me know they've learned something. In fact, nothing has cheered me up more than seeing the Iraqi soccar team in the Olympics. They were awesome.

maybe we should send the Taliban some heavy metal. I mean if music violates their faith than the heaviest stuff would really iritate them
