It has often been said that the course of a culture can be predicted by its artistic trends

Last Friday, Netflix released the first eight minutes of the “Stranger Things” Season 4 premiere as a sneak-peek video ahead of the official launch of Volume 1 this Friday. This opening scene depicts a massacre that involves Millie Bobby Brown’s psychokinetic and telepathic character Eleven and shows the dead bodies of several children covered in blood.

We watched Andy Griffith, I love Lucy, Jackie Gleason, Art Linkletter etc in days past and no mass shootings in schools. In fact kids took guns to schools.

I always saw art as an expression of the times or society it is created in.

Even to movies. Like when the middle east was attacking America on 911 and releasing beheading videos of Americans and torturing terrorists was a hot topic we have the uprising of torture porn movies like hostel and saw.

Now with the uptick in gays and trannies trying to rise up we see more of them everywhere. Same things with all the black shows, or shows starring blacks, or movies and shows being remade and recast with blacks

Andy worhols (spelling?) Art was a reflection of the times they lived in.

Normal Rockwell paintings and Andy Griffith were examples of a simple time those people were living in where people on the whole had mostly peaceful lives.

In the 90s when the news was taking a turn towards always reporting negative news and overly exposing crime we saw a rise in cop drama shows and movies like pulp fiction.

I think art and life are symbiotic. More reflective than causational.
Art reflects culture so culture dictates art.
What drives the culture is the issue.
I think art dictates culture.
I remember the Left in the 60’s complaining about Daffy Duck getting shot, said it was going to corrupt the kids. I somehow survived, but the realistic graphic violence of todays art desensitized a lot of people.

I think the culture drives the art.
Ever notice young men wearing their pants off of their ass as a style? That emanates from a culture that protests police and race.

That’s a big part of it but not the source. Most of them (especially ironic among blacks, since it’s a black race contrivance) have no idea of that source.
Most movies today include graphic violence that would have been X rated before. What kind of freak wants to watch someone being tortured?
It’s all part of the breakdown of society.

Again, it’s a reflection of cultural change and the reinforcement from the art makes it all kind of self- perpetuating.
Murder goes back to Cain and Able. Graphic violence in movies is a new product only seen in the last few decades.

Hitchcock murdered scores of people. We saw a knife go up, shower curtain get pulled down and blood flowing out of the tub. We knew what happened. Today we see every detail only pathologists would see.

In the Batman world, the Joker has become an anti anti hero to younger people. A whole psychology can be explained from Millennials and younger of the Joker who is a sick murdering psychotic! Admired for what he has gone through in life and proud to see his reaction to it.

Because the envelope is always pushed. That’s more a commercial thing.
More to the point, rap music (oxymoron) didn’t precede fatherless criminals incessantly murdering and impregnating in self-segregating racist communities. It reflected that change and reinforced it as acceptable among the most vulnerable.

Yes, humans trend towards decadence and evil. Thus my point is made on one reason society is in the state we’re in.

I prefer watching sheriffs who go fishing.
