You are wrong there. The UN advised Saddam to destroy his weapons and that's what he did .... and he said so. The first UN inspection team was saturated with CIA spies sent to plant false evidence so Saddam denied them access and reported it to the UN. The UN checked Saddam's accusation and found that he was right. So the UN put together a second team that was carefully screened to be sure there were no CIA agents. That team was sent to inspect the 12 sights the CIA claimed there were WMDs. In 11 of those sites the UN inspection team found nothing. But the US told everyone to leave the country because they were going to invade before the last sight could be inspected ..... and that is exactly what happened.
