FGM is not common amongst Muslim groups. It IS common within African groups. Egypt may be the exception, but there are very few culturally Egyptian people in Britain.

So you just spent two minutes googling and that makes you a George Orwell biographer? Read Bernard Crick's biography of Orwell. It's expansive and the only one worth a damn. I had to read it in graduate school. Or is reading an entire, scholarly, comprehensively footnoted and referenced biography just way too much effort? Try annotating as you go along then write an 80-page critique.

Orwell was very cynical by 1944. He was a BBC propagandist for the Indian theater. He flirted with anarchy. He definitely advocated the use of his .303 for an armed overthrow of the British government by the Home Guard directly following the war. I don't necessarily agree with his leftist politics, but I certainly understand where he was coming from for his period in history. I consider him the greatest political writer of the 20th century. He influenced my personal life for the style of writing I try to emulate. Now piss off and quit being such a jerk.

So you are not aware of the existance of the 20 volume work 'Complete Works of George Orwell' published in the UK in 1998 and edited by Professor Peter Davison? too bad. Perhaps if you took your thumb out of your back passage, you'd find time to have a look at it. No, I'm not familiar with Davison's anthology. I went to school in the 70's, not in 1998. Besides, not everything published in England is available in the US. There's a one volume anthology by the same title and editor in the US. I'll tell you what I do have. I've got a British first edition of 1984 in mint condition that I paid $800 for back in 1993. I have no idea what it's worth now. I don't care. I have no intention of selling it. I've also got a British first of the four volume anthology, 'Collected Letters, Essays, & Journalism'. I paid a lot for those too. There's a Penguin paperback set of those available in England that isn't available in the US. As to my "literary threat to Orwell", why don't you post something that doesn't sound like it came from a 12 year-old. Then I'll make a value judgement of you. Think you can handle that?
