After all, swimming to the US doesn't seem like something that a legal immigrant would do. It sounds something only applied to illegal immigrants. Who in my opinion deserve to be called every name in the book. I guess the context of it could be offensive though. Hence this video.

Don't know what your ethnicity is April, but look at it this way. If you were a LEGAL AMERICAN of hispanic heritage and someone called you a wetback, would you take offense? When you ask these questions, put some thought into them before posting.

Offensive to whom? Most of the people using this canard claim that someone else if offended, thereby avoiding having to explain their own phony assertions.

I'm not talking about calling legal immigrants anything. I'm talking about calling illegal immigrants this.

We've just gotten too sissified, when a word can hurt.

My Japanese in-laws suffered greatly after Pearl Harbor, but the word "Jap" didn't send them into a tizzy. Nor did they pass any sensitivity on to their offspring. At a holiday gathering at the home of my brother and his wife, her very drunk uncle went into a tirade about the "dirty Japs", and my husband, bless him, kept his dignity and shrugged his shoulders, and kept eating his dinner. I was so proud of him that day. He was the embodiment of the old advice, "Your ability to hurt me extends only as far as my ability to be hurt".

I have heard that lots of Mexicans who legally became Americans are just as unhappy about the illegal invaders as am I, and realize that the word "wetback" does not apply to them. Grown ups.
