I couldn't find a video of Trump saying this to confirm it but what is 20 years going to accomplish? Sure it'll work in the short term, but we can't let Iran get their hands on nuclear weapons EVER!! Hopefully, it's just fake news.

Trump and his rhetorical propaganda remind me of Baghdad Bob.
Goonblow offers his off-topic crap opinion instead of addressing the topic.

The question is whether President Trump is going soft.

“According to those reports, Trump said aboard Air Force One that he would accept a ‘full 20-year suspension’ of Iran’s nuclear program, provided there were strong guarantees and verification mechanisms.”

Answer from an AI citing the Wall Street journal. https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/ir...-of-iran-nuclear-program-JDhuKMyUdBCTowctbv4T

Even the qualifier “provided there were strong guarantees and verification mechanisms” (which the news reports should also mention) isn’t sufficient to defend his thinking.

So IOW sounds like fake news to me.

He's caving because he's losing.

Is Trump Softening Up?

No. He is actually toughening up. Anything he blurts out now on his way back from China is strictly for platonic media consumption until they all get back to Washington, cogitate and digest all that happened in Beijing, then chart their path going forward.

Anything Trump says now is strictly to keep our enemies (including the democrats) guessing what exactly our true intentions and next actions will be.

Expect in the coming days, the next week or two, for hell to break out in Iran as we rain down on them like a cloudburst in June.

I've learned a couple of life lessons:
1) Never EVER trust the mainstream media. Completely corrupt. Completely fact free
2) Never EVER take anything the Leftists here on USMB seriously.
Same reasons.

So I'll wait and judge Trump's China trip at a later date rather rush to a stupid judgment.

Hmmm... Now that's interesting. So you think that Trump actually said this but as a diversion?

He probably said it or something similar (maybe they left some words out) but whatever he said, it was just some noncommittal response to placate some journalist from the NYT to make them happy. Believe me, Trump is not softening up on Iran.
  1. Iran will never have a nuke.
  2. The Strait shall be open and unimpeded with all tankers coming and going freely without concern.
  3. And the IRGC weakened sufficiently to the point that finally, the population feels justified in rising up and trying to overthrow them.
Worst case scenario: we take out the critical infrastructure to cripple their military.

Iran is losing half a billion per day.

I don’t think so. See my prior post.

I did and your link is a paywall AND The Wall Street Journal. No offense to you or anything, since it isn't your fault, but enough said.

I can't find anything about a twenty-year suspension in any U.S. news outlet of note. At least not any recent mention of it by Trump.

In Fox exactly a Month ago, this was a one liner:

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Monday he opposes a reported proposal by the U.S. for a 20-year ban on Iran’s uranium enrichment under a potential deal.

"I appreciate President Donald Trump’s resolve to end the Iranian conflict peacefully and through diplomacy. However, we have to remember who we’re dealing with in Iran: terrorists, liars, and cheaters," Graham posted on X.

So, an X post from month ago has suddenly been necroed by some off-brand news outlets and the BBC (where the story is paywalled). Their stories seem to be echoes of each other.

When Trump supposedly makes statements like this, there is never any video, and it is often not quoted but paraphrased.

Here is an exception:

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on the flight back from Beijing, Trump said Friday: “I have no problem with Iran suspending its enrichment program for 20 years — but it has to be a real commitment.” Trump, who repeatedly praised Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit, said he is considering lifting sanctions on Chinese companies that purchase Iranian oil and will make a decision on the matter soon.

But who the hell is "ynetnews.com?"

I'm not saying it cannot be true.

15th post
I could get on board with a 20 year no development committment, if it were absolutely verifiable. I don't see Iran ever agreeing to that.

WSJ paywall.....Couldn't read the whole article but, IMO, what is important is 'According to those reports.' Whenever there is a statement like that I look for source of those 'reports' or,, I really can't believe that article is on the up and up.

I'm pretty sure that we've concluded that it's fake news.
