On the way to work, there's a village on a largish B road. It does have a few hills and dips, twists and turns, and many side roads. So 50 to 55 mph is kinda sensible, although it's technically a 60 mph road.

But there's a village with a 30 mph zone that's installed a speed camera. The way it works is, in one direction, a camera records your registration plate and time, and a few hundred yards you then pass through the crossroad junction, then another sensor records you again and a camera that takes a photo of your vehicle. If the time difference is too short, it calculates your speed and sends you a letter and you go through the process of a speeding fine. Obviously travelling the other way, it records your time and takes a photo, then records your time again and follows the same process.

There's a big but. I turn off at the crossroads, so I can't get clocked for speeding because I don't trigger both sides of the camera trap.

So is this petty? I was travelling at 50mph and I saw this guy racing up behind me, well above 60 mph. So I sped up 60 mph and he followed me to the first sensor. So I only slowed to 45 mph, kept going with him stuck to my bumper, and I quickly took the junction so he could go whizzing past. So he'll probably be getting a 40 mph+ speeding fine!!

I just think, "That'll teach you".

/---/ I grew up in the South, surrounded by speed traps. No cameras, but Smokey had a camera taking pictures.
