Is this even legal?

Thinking if I was Gov they would find themselves in prison.
No. Its is not illegal for them to ask people to vote for a candidate.

Where was the FEC last election?
Busy debunking the orange rapist's lies.

We kicked the Brits out in two wars and they would be speaking German if it wasn't for Uncle Sam. They support a degenerate monarchy that most civilized nations kicked out a hundred years ago and they give advice about American politics. WTF do we have to do to kick the Brits out again?

A donation “in kind” from a foreign country?

I dunno if that holds up. If it were a criminal violation for a foreign national to support a US candidate, then you'd have to lay some draconian limitations on 1st amendment rights for legal immigrants and tourists to the US.

There's no such limits that I'm aware of. I don't think any such limits are even constitutional. The Due Process Clause extends a litany of rights to all 'aliens', even the illegal ones. So tourists and legal immigrants would certainly be covered. Almeida-Sanchez v. United States was very clear that foreign nationals had 5th amendment protections. Why not the 1st?

There are limits to campaign finance. But campaigning? I don't think so.

Now's probably not the time for interlopers to be in NC.

It should be a fine time for anyone to express their views or campaign for who they wish, in any State.

What does it say about NC that it isn't?

Hopefully they will. I sent the URL for the story to the Federal Election Commission's fraud portal.

I don't see how that's fraud. Why would foreign nationals not have 1st amendment protections in the US? Political speech is among the most highly protected.

Federal law prohibits contributions, donations, expenditures(including independent expenditures) and disbursements solicited, directed, received or made directly or indirectly by or from foreign nationals in connection with any federal, state or local election.

Helping a candidate campaign could be considered a donation, in kind. Remember, we went through this previously when dems accused to getting “in kind” donations.

Volunteering time is still considered a donation.

Nope. Volunteering for foreign nationals is completely legal and is fully within the FEC rules.

It isn't recognized as a donation, 'in kind' or any other. The FEC has a section laying out under what conditions a foreign national can volunteer. Its basically uncompensated and not in any management role. There are also other restrictions on soliciting donations.

This is why Twitter is not the best source for legal advice. Elon doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. And MTG is the same lady that insisted that the NOAA can control the weather. So dipshits are gonna dip.

Its completely legal. The FEC allows foreign nationals to act as uncompensated campaign volunteers as long they don't take management or decision making roles in the campaign.
