Mike Yastrzemski was just signed by the Atlanta Braves for $23 Million over two years. He is an outfielder, 35 years old, and last year in 146 games he batted .233, with 17 HR and 46 RBI.

To me, those numbers spell m-e-d-i-o-c-r-e, as in "about to be released," or "send him down to the minors," or "it's time to think about retirement."

But no. The Braves think that's good enough to spent about 12 million a year on him.

What am I missing? I'm seeing a #7 or #8 hitter, nothing more. They could just call someone up from the minors and expect production that good, basically for nothing.

Ever since the whole "Brought to you by Draft Kings" stuff started nothing in sports seems rational anymore. 😐

They spent a bit better that 1.25 Billion on advertising across the major sports leagues last year.

And that was just DK.

MLB has the strongest players union, once you are put into a major league rotation, you can make really good money once you are an established veteran. They get players in their early prime for little pay in the first 4 years unless they are a standout, and then they quickly get signed long term (by teams with deep pockets).

Paul Skenes got a big signing bonus and has been, arguably, the best pitcher in baseball for two season while playing for very little salary, comparatively.

MLB is turning into an elite game for the very wealthy...

thats not bad compared to some other ones look at anthony rendons with the Angels 37 million a year for 6 years and in the last 5 years he has played 257 games....always hurt...

Def one of the worst free agent signings in history. He overperformed on a Washington Nationals team that figured out a way to win a World Series. The Angels have a history of doing this, at the same time they were also paying Pujols a fortune and his best years were behind him, he had 2 championships already.

Show some sympathy, the man has to eat.

He's kind of a "gamer". Good OF defense, smart player. Good baseball upbringing. Carl.

Not sure why SF let him go? Maybe it was free agency and he wanted out.

All contract sizes for 0.250 guess hitters or $50 million for a fat DH? Agree, Ridiculous.

the angels always sign guys who have had their moment.....and then they let a few get away without getting anything...like ohtani....

All this tells me is that is the type of money that is generated by this sport and team to be able to pay him that amount.

That's it. That's all.

SF traded him to KC for a minor league player and then they let him go free agent....

Getting as bad as NBA. In 94' strike, I quit MLB. In about 99' I quit NFL. In 2000 I quit NBA.

I came back somewhat MLB in the early 2000s but never the same. Playoffs are pretty good. WC makes it excitig,or used to?

NBA? Got to where I watched only the last 5 min of a game 7 playoff.

NFL. I use it for entertainment gambling only. Ridiculous games, clock dependent. One team may on only get 40 plays on offense? 5 of them meaningful. The rest of time just standing around or kneeling. Unless its a tight game with over 8min left, its over mostly.

Soccer is more exciting but for flopping and arguing with the ref

the Orioles have bettered themselves ..last year they only had a guy with 17 HR....they have added 2, 30 HR guys recently...
