In california,Mexican guy ordered Starbucks coffee, employee didn't hear his name so she just typed "beaner" on the receipt
 
why would it be?
It just means they eat a lot of beans.
 
Its rude and its was stupid...
 
It was rude, but not the end of the world.

And certainly not cause to shut down Starbucks for a day to re-edumacate 8,000 employees.

Not necessarily. That would depend on various factors, such as the plainly expressed intention, the general atmosphere of the place and, most importantly, what the specific meaning of the word, "beaner," is.

It's entirely possible the clerk who typed that word did so as a casual gesture of friendly familiarity with no malice or offense intended.
