The same right-wing authoritarian fringe group has hijacked both the terms "Republican" and "Christian" and twisted them to represent its sick and dangerous ideology. They have killed the republican party as a legitimate party. They can't kill off the Christian faith so easily because there are millions of decent Christians in the U.S.
True.
And this happened long before Trump.
Trump is merely a symptom of the malignancy that is the GOP and conservatism.
And that sickness will remain after Trump is gone, we should all hope come January 20th, 2021.
The STINK of Trump will remain long after he is gone. Those who protected him, excused his excesses and looked the other way, will have no place to hide
Perhaps.
But don’t underestimate the duplicity of Republicans – all of whom will claim they were ‘against’ Trump once Trump is gone.
Indeed, for many Republicans, their issue is with the messenger, not the message.
Even after Trump, Republicans will still attempt to advance the same failed, wrongheaded agenda: their anti-immigrant nativism, their reckless, irresponsible deregulation, their propensity for foreign military intervention, their efforts to suppress voting rights, their desire to violate privacy rights, and their unwarranted hostility toward gay and transgender Americans, to name but a few.
The authoritarian right will continue to fear positive, beneficial change, it will continue to compel conformity, silence dissent, and increase the power of the state at the expense of individual liberty.
