Is Putin losing his head?

What brought you to that conclusion?
Several things, but basically because the Russians have been out fought and out thought every step of the way. From the very first day of the invasion, it is impossible to name one thing the Russians have done right, but this counteroffensive is a perfect example of how the Ukrainians out thought the Russians and then out fought the Russians.

All summer long the Ukrainians talked about the counteroffensive in the South they would start in the fall, and in response the Russians moved troops from the North to bolster defenses in the South. However, while this was going on, Russian military bloggers noted that the Ukrainians were also building up their forces in the North, but the Russian military never responded to the buildup in the North and that's where the real offensive took place. That level of incompetence is fatal.

In addition, Ukraine had 700,000 highly mobile battle-hardened soldiers ready to attack Russian position and Russian had barely 200,000 trying to defend fixed positions that were chronically undersupplied because of Ukrainian attacks on Russian supply depots and command and control centers. In fact, Russia never had enough soldiers in the field to implement a winning strategy in Ukraine and still won't after Putin's partial mobilization. This kind of incompetence is fatal.

Again, the Ukrainians have clearly out thought and out fought the Russians at every step, and there is no evidence that the Russians are capable of learning anything from their many defeats; hence, Ukraine will win this war.

Well he's been consistently wrong about Ukraine, you know.

"The battle in eastern Ukraine is really almost over, all of the Ukrainian troops there have been largely surrounded and cut off. You have a concentration down in the Southeast of 30 or 40,000 of them, and if they don't surrender in the next 24 hours, I suspect Russia will ultimately annihilate them."

That was on February 27...

A brilliant tank commander, but he wrecked his career by going to war with the army brass. Hates Germany and Mexico, loves Russia.

Said in 2014 that Russia should annex the Donbas and any other Ukrainian territory that Russia wanted.

Also advocated for the summary execution of illegals at the southern border, which no doubt endears him to certain people in the US...
