Inside Trump's DOJ: Punitive firings, public scoldings and pressure to prosecute foes

Kelly O. Hayes, a career prosecutor serving as Trump’s acting U.S. attorney in Maryland, has been facing intense pressure and questions for weeks from Ed Martin, a Trump ally tapped to run the newly formed weaponization task force at the department, about when she will bring criminal charges against Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

She has chosen to move forward with a case she feels has merit and that will also be welcomed by the White House: to prosecute Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton on charges related to mishandling classified information. Hayes has told colleagues she believes some charges against Bolton are reasonable and warranted, a case involving mishandling of classified information that began under the Biden administration, according to MSNBC sources.

But Hayes’ office has been interviewing witnesses in a grand jury probe examining allegations that Schiff defrauded a bank related to financing for a second home in Maryland and is bracing for being fired herself when she explains that there are insufficient facts to bring such a case against the U.S. senator, the sources said.

This may be one of those moments when the view from 40,000 ft. is required to provide some perspective. While I'm somewhat hesitant to write out this list since it loses its impact when each item isn't given the full consideration it needs, it gets the point across.

The prez has cut funding for projects in blue states previously authorized by Congress in order to punish Dem's for having the audacity to disagree with him on politics.

He has sent federal troops in the cities run by Dem's in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act.

He has ordered the prosecution of political adversaries.

He has ordered the firing of US Attorney's who could not find enough evidence to indict said adversaries.

He has initiated a restrictive press policy at the Pentagon so outrageous it resulted in reporters walking out en masse.

He has initiated an immigration policy favorable to white people.

He has asked red states to gerrymander districts in order to advantage Repubs in the midterms.

He has routinely sought to expand presidential power beyond constitutional limits.

He has ordered the execution of 27 people in international waters without evidence of a crime and without a legal justification.

I am of the belief it will take Republicans to stand up and say "this in un-American and it can't go on," perhaps even a member of the cabinet, in order to jolt his supporters in to realizing just how far down the rabbit hole trump has taken us.

After the press conferences and other press involved ways in his first term, he owes you nothing. Nothing! April Ryan and Jim Acosta were a disgrace. They showed they were not media. They are Propaganda shills like most of what we see every day on TV. Newspapers and magazines have devolved also. Suspecting and seeing this for years before his first term was true proof during it. You guys even have shill comediennes promoting Prog propaganda and it is serious to you. In the end he will save all our bacon for the tough decisions need to be made whether we like it or not.

This is what authoritarianism looks like. It's not just coming from one person -- one person sets the tone and his loyalists follow the template, while the flock deflects for it by claiming "the other guy did it first". Anything the "other guy" did was a pale comparison at best.

As always, I wonder if this is how it was done in Europe, 90 years ago. Trump is making zero effort to hide any of this, so it's quickly becoming normalized.

I watched the blonde sock puppet and Ka$h Patel staring at their feet as the convicted criminal who is their boss stewed over how he wants more of his adversaries investigated. In Weismann's case for being "a bad guy."

You can't convince me they don't know how completely out of bounds it was. They may even have wanted to say something to Generalissimo trump in private about how inappropriate it was to for him to make such requests. If for no other reason than it undermines the legitimacy of any investigation. But they won't say a thing.

Yup. Then add to that the rest of his "Cabinet" and the congressional Republicans.

This is never about one person. Never.

The word that seems to fit best is they are enabling someone who has given control of himself over to his deep, seething, insatiable, anger and frustration. Frustration with his failures, with the lack of credit for the successes he has deluded himself in to believing he's had, and with having been held to account for his immoral, illegal behavior for the first time in his life.

Career federal prosecutors are navigating what colleagues describe as an intense White House pressure campaign to execute Donald Trump’s vows of vengeance against his political foes and critics, according to multiple sources familiar with the internal dynamics.

They describe public scoldings and tense discussions playing out in U.S. attorney’s offices in Washington, D.C., and Virginia, with prosecutors pursuing probes that political appointees pushed them to launch and finding little evidence of crimes.

In the U.S. attorney’s office in Alexandria, the push has roiled prosecutors who fear the goal is to influence the upcoming November elections there, several said.

Elections have consequences, eh comrade?

Prosecutor Who Rejected Trump’s Pressure to Charge James Is Fired

A federal prosecutor who resisted President Trump’s demands to bring charges against Letitia James, the New York state attorney general, was fired along with her deputy on Friday evening, according to three people familiar with the matter.

The dismissal of the prosecutor, Elizabeth Yusi, was the latest fallout from attempts by career Justice Department officials to pump the brakes on Mr. Trump’s wide-ranging efforts to seek retribution against his perceived political opponents.

Ms. Yusi, who oversaw major criminal cases in the Norfolk office of the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Virginia, had pushed back against Mr. Trump’s public calls for Ms. James to be indicted, telling colleagues that she had not found probable cause to file charges, the people familiar with the matter said. It was not immediately clear why her deputy, Kristin G. Bird, had also been fired.

For another presidency these prosecutors being fired would not only be major scandals but impeachable offenses for abuse of power. For the regime it's a day that ends in Y.

All of these bogus indictments have been thrown out and now we're finding that these were trump haters out to lie and use defamation. Damn the truth. So, now we're finding out who the real criminals ie smith really are.

That’s not going to happen.

It’s not just Trump – Republicans are just as bad, if not worse; Republicans willfully facilitate Trump’s crimes and assault on the Constitution and rule of law.

You guys cheered when a weaponized New York Attorney General went after Trump with similar charges, relying only on the Grand Jury's ignorance of how real estate financing works and on a New York trial jury's hatred of Trump.

Now you mad bro?

Because the weaponized justice system that you created fell into the hands of the enemy?

Stop crying.

Stand it like a man, if that is possible Tell your party or "not your party" to go to the GOP hat in hand and negotiate an end to this lawfare. If they are too proud to do that, the lawfare will continue into the next administration, regardless of which side wins.

And here’s further proof it’s not just Trump.

Republicans are just as reprehensible and wrong, just as much enemies of democracy, just as much advocates of weaponizing DOJ and using it’s authority to go after Trump’s political opponents in violation of the rule of law.

This is what Progressives do. You guys do vengeance on society better than anyone. You have no fear of destroying any person deemed in your way. Your communist soldiers tried to destroy and even kill Trump. The subterfuge in that must be something of a paranoid political movie.

You can thank o and biden for weaponizing and spying on the opposition. And now you're mad when someone uses it against your party? Lol.

Hayes has told her superiors there is not enough evidence to charge Schiff. How many times can Dotard fire prosecutors who can't find enough evidence to charge his enemies?
