Is 5G a scam?

When 5G was first conceived, they said it was going to be SO much faster than 4G, by a long shot. They also said due to 4 G’s short range, there were going to have to be a ton of towers all over the place.

Here we are now, and in my opinion, I’m not really feeling like my cell speeds are any faster than 4G. Things still freeze up and take about the same time to download. Also, where are all the towers they said they were going to have to install? I see 5G towers here and there, yet when I look at my phone, I have 4 full bars of 5G.

Has anyone else noticed any speed increases? Doesn’t seem like I have.

The biggest difference between 4 and 5 G is latency but that difference is measured in ms. You also have to remember that while the cell network might be faster that doesn’t mean the terrestrial backbone it’s connected to is necessarily. Also the number of mobile subscribers in a given cell and the amount of data going across the network just keeps increasing.

Sure, I guess they over promised then. They were talking about this amazing speed we would be seeing, but that never happened. I feel my phone was just as fast in 4G.

Has anyone seen differently?

You understand that the difference in speed is less than a second of latency, right?

The speed of your connection depends on various factors, little on the theoretical maximum speed of radio technologies.
While 5G isn´t a scam, its advantage is hardly noticeable unless you download or upload large amounts of data. 4G is simply good enough for phones. 3G actually is.
As for freezes, that is probably some issue with your phone.

I determine speed by how fast or slow my phone downloads things or how long it takes to load web pages. It seems to me it’s the same as it was on 4G

If it took 10 minutes download item A and they doubled the speed it would then take 5 minutes and you would notice that. But if it took 75 ms and I doubled the speed making it only take 30 ms you wouldn’t. Do you understand that?

I do, but they were claiming that 5G was supposed to be many times faster. Also, you’re talking about latency not download speeds. That’s what I’m talking about. The download speed. Wasn’t it supposed to be like over 10 times as fast?

Latency (also called ping, lag, or ms) measures how much time it takes for your computer, the internet, and everything in between, to respond to an action you take (like clicking on a link).

5G is much faster but because 4G was already fast as fuck your brain doesn't register the difference. Also, the internet doesn't exist on the cellphone network so the speed at which things happen isn't solely dependent on how fast that small portion of the communication path responds.

I feel like you are this person.

I have 5G on my internet and phone. I have 350Mb/S download speed and 23ms latency.

Good enough to stream movies and be online at the same time.

No landlines at all to my house. :)

Cellular phone providers arent responsible for the speed of things outside their network.

So the cell functions are capable of those speeds, but the structure around their services are not?
