What makes them under-taxed? What percentage should they pay? Why?
Why? We are $35 trillion in debt. In the big picture collecting 1 billion does little to nothing in addressing this debt.
The stock markets hit 20,000 in 2017. It hit 10,000 in 1999. 25 years ago. It's at 43,000 today. So over double in 7 years. No one actually worked for that. It is largely money simply pumped into the markets by the Federal Reserve and a small percent have gained the most by that.
Others have struggled because of the inflation that has caused. I might argue that taxing everyone more would be fair as they by and large have continued to vote for those who continue to run up the debt but I will never understand those who are struggling with the inflation arguing those who have benefitted the greatest by those actions that caused (at least in part) the inflation shouldn't be paying more to address the debt.
