IRS chief quits after immigration data-sharing deal

IRS tax information is like HIPAA, its extremely confidential. Remember when you and Orange Jesus lost their minds when tax info was slipped out?

If its legal, I don't care. Is it legal is the question.

The government treats the information as confidential, but that doesn't mean that they keep it confidential from themselves

The Trump shit show continues.

It will continue until the hard-core Trumpers truly suffer financially in a bad way.

Third IRS chief since the new admin. This one quit when the Admin started using confidential IRS tax information to target potentially illegal immigrants.
The acting head of the Internal Revenue Service plans to resign, the Treasury Department said on Tuesday, a move that comes after the agency struck a controversial deal to share tax data on undocumented immigrants with federal agents.

Commissioner Melanie Krause will become the tax-collecting agency's third leader to exit since the start of the year, a chaotic period marked by the firing of thousands of its employees mandated by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency.

Her departure also comes amid the busiest time of the year for the IRS, with the filing deadline for most individual tax returns falling on April 15.

On Monday, the IRS and Department of Homeland Security finalized an agreement under which taxpayer data will be provided to federal immigration authorities to help them locate undocumented immigrants.

Officials with the Treasury Department, of which the IRS is a part, had largely bypassed Krause in recent days in seeking to give immigration authorities access to the private taxpayer information, the Washington Post reported.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem signed the data-sharing agreement on Monday, even though IRS attorneys advised that the deal likely violated privacy laws, the Washington Post said.

"Melanie Krause has been leading the IRS through a time of extraordinary change," a Treasury spokesperson said in an emailed statement, confirming her resignation.

Without mentioning the data agreement, the spokesperson added that the agency was "in the midst of breaking down data silos that for too long have stood in the way of identifying waste, fraud, and abuse and bringing criminals to justice."
I fully support getting all information possible from all sources to find the whereabouts of illegals needing deporting.

Um, let's see, the first one was Xiden's appointment, that was removed as the new Admin took office, the second was the deputy that became acting, another Xiden appointee who simply annoucned he was retiring, and then his deputy became the acting. Trump hasn't appointed his own yet. Trump's appointment has not been confirmed yet. With that said, I think the country would be better served once he is voted in

^^^Look everyone, the people who wanted a national vaccine database are complaining about the IRS sharing tax data with the Justice Department.

Don’t look here there or anywhere as you will find illegal, guilty parties

What's wrong with the government agencies sharing information among themselves to find miscreants?
The IRS (as with Revenue services around the world) have extensive authority within financial institutions for tax collection....
They use this to collect tax fairly and stop wealthier and more powerful putting in barriers which would hide their activities...

Example: Banks report if someone comes in with a large amount money to deposit (it could be a sign of tax evasion)

Bu for that power they don't use that power to investigate other crimes like drug use or paying a prostitute...They didn't have reasonable cause to investigate that crime... This is the balance the US and many other countries take to be fair as possible.

Using the IRS to investigate immigration is a breach of their remit.

Using IRS records is legal. Illegals don’t have the same rights as Americans.
Sure, they do. If it is legal to do citizens, then it is the same for illegals. If it is illegal for citizens, it is illegal for immigrants who are here wrongly.

Except for Indolent Thinker. Everything is fair.

Illegals have only one right- getting deported back to where they came from
