TEHRAN (AFP) -- Iranians hit back at Benjamin Netanyahu's suggestion that they were banned from wearing jeans and listening to Western music, mocking the Israeli premier's comments on social websites Monday.In an interview with BBC Persian television broadcast Saturday, Netanyahu had said "if Iranians were free, they would wear jeans and listen to Western music."Netanyahu has sought to portray Iranian President Hassan Rouhani -- a moderate elected in June -- as a "wolf in sheep's clothing" in order to maintain international pressure on Tehran over its nuclear program.But his comments about jeans and music brought a storm of mockery online. By Sunday a Facebook page called "Our jeans in Netanyahu's face, Bibi watch out," had appeared, posting dozens of pictures of young Iranians wearing jeans.Although Iran maintains an Islamic dress code which requires women to cover their hair and men to wear shorts, jeans are legal. While some Western music, such as rap, is not available in licensed music stores, many young people download foreign artists' work.

By Monday, the page had attracted more than 600 followers, with hundreds of comments."He thinks he saw our bomb but he hasn't seen our jeans," one user wrote, referring to Netanyahu's repeated allegations that Iran is trying to acquire nuclear weapons, charges denied by Tehran.*"Even our ancestors wore jeans," another netizen wrote, posting a photoshopped picture of an Achaemenid soldier from 500 BC wearing jeans.*

Don't mind Frau Sherri, Lipush. Even though she herself would never move to Iran now, she also would never post about the Iranian cleric's remark about women's breast causing earthquakes. There should have been a Facebook page showing the video of the Iranian policewomen training. So ridiculous that they have to wear burqas. The Iranian women used to dress so nicely with many going to Paris for their clothes, but no more. Perhaps Frau Sherri likes it that way because she thinks that wasn't a good way for Muslim women to dress. However, Frau Sherri going to that mosque in Reseda, CA must have seen how nicely Iranian women dressed in the San Fernando Valley.

It showed the young people up in the mountains smoking dope because, as they related to the interviewer, they were so bored with their lives in Iran under the religious crazies. Perhaps Frau Sherri has seen this documentary. Anyhow, a Muslim Iranian comedian living here in the States (no doubt Frau Sherri knows the names of all the Muslim Iranian comedians) said that every time he visits Iran, his cousins ask him how can they get to the U.S. No doubt many of the young Iranians would leave if they had the wherewithal (even if they had to climb over the mountains like many did to get away from the crazy religious leaders) to move to another country where they could start a new life and feel free.

Frau Sherri thinks she is fooling us. With her connection to Iran, she probably is aware of young people wanting to leave for the U.S., Canada and Europe where they will have freedom from those religious crazies. With Frau Sherri even dragging in a certain Rabbi in her post shows just what she is. Maybe Frau Sherri feels that it is OK for her to have freedom here sitting in her house around the clock spewing her nonsense, but those stuck in Iran shouldn't.
